Holding a glass of wine, Shi Tian stood in front of the five old men, ready to accept his punishment. After downing four cups, it was Old Lu's turn.
Scratching his nose, Shi Tian chuckled, "Old Lu, how about we stick to your rules? You drink one cup, and I’ll take three?"
Old Lu had been quite obedient today, calling Shi Tian "Xiao Ye" with every breath, making it seem like they were blood relatives in the eyes of outsiders.
"That’s not too good! You've had quite a bit to drink tonight; just one cup will suffice," he said. However, despite his words, he was quite earnest, holding the wine bottle in his hand, clearly waiting to pour for Shi Tian.
"No way! We can’t break the rules! You are the elder, and I am the junior; we must follow your customs!"
"Alright then, three cups it is! I’ve seen how well you can drink, Xiao Tian!" Old Lu agreed.
With that response, a smirk appeared on Shi Tian's face as he turned to the old men. "Old Kong, I've had quite a bit to drink today. Tomorrow morning I still need to fetch feed for you all; could you take one cup for me?"
Shi Tian had previously complained to Old Kong about how Old Lu had forced him to drink. Old Kong had promised to help him regain his footing. Now that the opportunity was at hand, the old men wouldn’t let it slip by.
"We'll drink those three cups for you; you're still growing—better not drink too much!" With that, Old Kong raised his glass and downed it in one go.
As Old Kong stood up, Old Lu immediately followed suit. Seeing Old Kong finish his drink, Old Lu raised his hand to pour more wine for him. But Old Kong simply pulled back his glass and stared silently at Old Lu.
"Old Lu, what are your rules again?" Old Kong gave him a nod of respect without reminding him of his nickname.
"Rules? Oh right, let’s stick to the rules!" With that said, Old Lu downed three cups in quick succession.
Once Old Kong finished his turn, Old Wen and Old Liu joined in on the fun. Each took a cup, and Old Lu felt like cursing under his breath!
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." After sending off the three old rascals, Old Lu shot a glare at Shi Tian, who shrank back in fear and quickly moved closer to Li Yunfei.
Having pulled one over on Old Lu in front of Shi Ye made Shi Tian feel a bit smug. What’s there to be afraid of with Father-in-law? If something needs to be dealt with, it must be done; otherwise, they’ll get spoiled!
"Uncle Li, I'm here for my punishment!" After downing another cup of wine, Shi Tian chuckled.
Li Yunfei glanced at Shi Tian and then at Old Lu. He smiled broadly without saying a word.
"I get it; you and Old Lu are both from the capital—same rules apply!" With that remark, Shi Tian downed two more cups, restoring some face for Old Lu.
"Why drink so much? Quickly have some water to wash it down!" Li Yunfei handed Shi Tian a glass of water.
Li Yunfei was using Mi San's rod while Yi Laotou also had Mi San's rod; both were catching big fish. It seemed they had startled all the fish into deeper waters while chatting by the lake!
"Uncle Li, let me help you catch some fish!" Turning around to assemble the net, Shi Tian watched Yi Laotou and Li Yunfei reel in their catches. Whoever got their fish to shore first would get help with their catch.
The fish on the rod had lost its strength. Shi Tian assembled the net, and Yi Laotou immediately called him over. The net was lowered into the water, and a lively Big Grass Carp weighing around seven or eight pounds surfaced, its dark back contrasting with its belly.
After removing the hook, Shi Tian held the fish in front of Yi Laotou and took a picture with his phone before turning to help Li Yunfei. By the time he reached Li Yunfei, the fish there had already been caught, while Yi Laotou had finished releasing his catch. None of them had brought any gear that night; they only carried a rod.
In the nearby room, four old men had left behind plenty of equipment for use. The items they had swapped out were stored inside, but it hardly seemed worth it to rummage through their gear just for a few fish.
Last night, a group had fished at Yuehu until eleven before heading back, and then Old Kong requisitioned the Air Force villa. With so many people involved, Xiao Yu also came along. They left some people on duty at the fish pond, setting up tents, and all three professors stayed behind. It felt a bit inconsiderate to ask them to work and set up tents; that wasn't how one should treat researchers!
The four old men moved into the Air Force villa while the Air Force personnel were sent off to Lu Ya. It was only for one night anyway; by dawn, this pair of unfortunate brothers would likely be summoned back to Beijing for matchmaking, so their chances of fishing were slim.
After finishing their evening fishing session, Shui Bi Zhang and the others began their journey home. By the time they returned to the resort, it was already noon.
After lunch, several Old Bosses left with Fish Catch. Shui Bi Zhang volunteered to lead Zhang Junming and Long Xia to the store to buy wheels. "Zhang, Long Ge, remember we agreed to go fishing for Carp together the day after tomorrow? I found a Secret Fishing Spot!"
Having spent several days on the boat, Shui Bi Zhang had become quite familiar with Zhang Junming. He called him "Zhang" without any formality, completely disregarding his position as a boss.
Zhang Junming wanted to recruit Shui Bi Zhang but found that Shui Bi Zhang's ambitions lay elsewhere. Looking at how exhausted Long Xia was compared to himself made it clear: as fellow workers, one should go where it's most comfortable!
Long Xia's abilities were also impressive; however, due to various company regulations, no matter how capable he was, he wouldn't receive the same treatment as Shui Bi Zhang. The larger the company grew and the more established its systems became, the less room there was for unconventional paths!
"Alright then," Shui Bi Zhang said. "We've agreed; let's see how your Secret Fishing Spot holds up when we go for Carp together!"
