Previously, I had caught over thirty pounds of Ocean Wolf here, along with a Shi Ban weighing more than ten pounds.
Now that the tide is rising, it's time to cast my line; this is when the fish are biting! First, I need to persuade Yi Laotou to drop his line. Once he does, if we stay here for a couple of hours, there’s no way they’ll be going anywhere.
The Spring Tide brings plenty of fish to the shore, and with some luck, catching a few big ones shouldn’t be too difficult! Hearing about the ten-pound Shi Ban, what’s there to wait for?
Carp Bait, Bait, Xia Zhuang, Xia Fen—what else do I need? Right, I’ll go with Shi Ban and Live Shrimp. I’ll need to mash it a bit; a portion of secret Wo Liao will be ready in no time.
Let’s each take a few scoops and bait our hooks while we fish. As soon as the Live Shrimp is on the hook and the rod is cast out, I can feel my eyelids twitching in anticipation.

He begins chanting prayers! After selecting the release spot, he closes his eyes to meditate for three minutes. Then he turns around and gives the command. A group of aunties behind him starts pulling out little iron plates engraved with the Heart Sutra that they obtained through eight hundred eighty-eight offerings made by Pao Guang Sha Master himself. They begin earnestly mumbling over their respective bowls of Shi Ban.
“Guanyin Bodhisattva, in deep Prajnaparamita see all phenomena as empty, liberating all from suffering…”
Hearing this scripture makes Yi Laotou perk up his ears. He lifts his rod and switches to three hooks. After surveying the terrain nearby, he takes two steps forward to leave enough space for these people to have an optimal release spot. Today’s mission is accomplished.
There’s nothing wrong with doing good deeds or releasing fish as long as they aren’t invasive species; you can release whatever you want. However, persuading others to spend money for releases—that’s where things get tricky!
Once the aunties finish their chants, Yi Laotou casually grabs a Live Shrimp and hooks it onto his line.
As soon as the fish from the Aunties hit the water, Yi Laotou cast his line and struck right in the fish's nest. With a swift motion of his rod, he hooked the largest Shi Ban, pulling it back as he lowered the net into the water. The Auntie could only watch helplessly as the big Shi Ban she had spent hundreds on was taken into Yi Laotou's Yu Hu.
"This fish has been blessed; it has Merit! You can't catch it!" she cried out, rising to confront Yi Laotou. But he simply cast his line again and caught another one. The three-pronged hook was indeed quite effective!
"This fish has been blessed; Jia Master said so! It has Merit, you can't catch it!" Seeing the Auntie approaching, Yi Laotou casually tossed the first fish into his Yu Hu, hoping to catch another before they all swam away. Just one more from Nancheng would make it perfect!
"I'm not fishing for fish; I'm fishing for Merit!" he declared, casting his line once more, and another Merit was hooked!
The Auntie was momentarily stunned by Yi Laotou's words. Had her thousands of dollars spent on Merit just been hooked away by this old man? All her efforts wasted?
She glanced back at Jia Master, who also looked taken aback; this was no ordinary situation! "Jia Master, this man has stolen my Merit!" she exclaimed, but Jia Master remained indifferent, showing no intention of intervening. The Auntie grew anxious.
"This is your tribulation! Only you can cross it! You cannot rely on others to help you through your tribulation; if someone else resolves it for you, it's equivalent to failing your trial!" With that, Jia Master closed his eyes, revisiting his Heart Sutra. This was a theoretical lesson that could not be taken lightly!
