Old Zhou had once again asked Aunt Huang to taste the dish. Time and again he had tried and failed, yet he persisted. After so many attempts, Aunt Huang had grown accustomed to it. Whenever called, she would come, and after a few more tries, this One Pot, Three Provinces should finally yield its true flavor.
A bouquet of roses was quite expensive. He bought the first one and hesitated for three days before daring to give it away, only for it to wilt. Then he bought a second bouquet. The second one wilted too, leading him to purchase a third. By now, he had bought four or five bouquets, yet he still hadn’t mustered the courage to present one.
As the One Pot from Three Provinces was served on the table, under the dim light, Old Zhou gathered his courage four or five times but still didn’t dare to go upstairs and retrieve the wilting roses. Forget it; that bouquet was a bit past its prime. He would buy a fresh one tomorrow and surely be able to give it away!
“Aunt Huang, I’m sorry to trouble you again tonight. Please taste this and let me know how it is,” Old Zhou said cautiously, glancing at Aunt Huang as he sought her opinion.
He had struggled over how to address her for quite some time. After researching online tips extensively, he decided to put them into practice today!
“What did you just call me?” Aunt Huang paused, looking up at Old Zhou in surprise.
“Oh! It’s nothing,” Old Zhou quickly backtracked upon seeing her reaction.
The way he addressed her felt awkward to him, and even more so for Aunt Huang, who felt goosebumps all over!
“You called me ‘beauty’?” Aunt Huang frowned slightly.
“Well, isn’t that what young people call pretty women on TV? When they see a young and beautiful woman, they call her beauty, right? You’re young and beautiful too! Xiao Tian and the others call you Aunt Huang; I think calling you old sounds off!” After a moment of contemplation about the romantic tips he had gathered over three days, Old Zhou finally found a suitable excuse!
“Why are you learning these ridiculous things?” Aunt Huang rolled her eyes at him. Her face turned slightly red as her heart raced. Being called beautiful felt like this!
“You can say that here, but if you call me that outside…” Aunt Huang began but then stood up to pour Old Zhou a glass of water.
However, upon seeing Old Zhou’s flushed face, she quickly corrected herself: “No, wait! You can’t say that here either! Don’t say it outside!”
At first, Old Zhou felt elated by her words, but upon hearing the latter part of her statement, he froze in place as Aunt Huang accidentally spilled tea onto his hand.
“Ouch!” He jumped from his chair as hot tea splashed onto his pants.
“Ah! Quickly wipe it off! The room is dim; it spilled on your hand!” Old Zhou exclaimed in distress as Aunt Huang hurriedly set the teapot down on the table and turned to help him.
She grabbed two napkins from the table and rushed over to him. Just then, the door swung open unexpectedly as two people entered at once. With a press of a switch, the entire hall lit up instantly.
“Uncle Zhou! Why didn’t you turn on the lights? You can’t save money like this!” one of them exclaimed casually before looking up and noticing the atmosphere in the hall. “Are you all so open-minded?”
They were about to start their promotional activities for Old Zhou’s restaurant with Xiao Yu. It seemed like they had arrived at an inopportune moment and interrupted something between Old Zhou and Aunt Huang.
At that moment, Old Zhou mentally cursed Xiao Feng’s ancestors for ruining his chance for some close interaction. Did they not realize how much effort he had put into this opportunity? Was it really that easy?
“Uncle Zhou! Seriously? Why didn’t you close the door for something like this?” Xiao Feng said as he covered Xiao Yu’s eyes and attempted to leave discreetly but was called back by Aunt Huang.
If those two got away now, there would be no explaining this situation—it would be too embarrassing!
As they were dragged into the room, the door shut behind them and the lights flickered on. The two individuals hurriedly began to explain themselves, and the Unreliable Duo nodded repeatedly in response.
