The river that A Heng mentioned wasn't far; they had passed it on their way from the airport. The car stopped at a nearby parking lot, and they shouldered their gear as they made their way down to the bridge. Xin Ba and the others followed closely behind, and there were three fishermen under the bridge, which felt quite welcoming!
Wherever there are people, there are Chinese individuals; and where there are Chinese individuals, there are Chinese fishermen.
"Hey, do you have a bite?" Even though they looked like fellow countrymen, it was better to confirm.
"Just arrived!"
The code was right; a seasoned player. He pulled out some cigarettes and handed them out one by one, then found a spot to set up his stand. He prepared the bait and took out the rod he had brought for A Heng, adjusting the float before handing it over to him.
"Heng Ge, let’s fish together! You sit in this fishing chair while I teach you."
He attached some plastic particles to the line and cast it out, quickly passing the rod into A Heng's hands. Before A Heng could react, he had already become a fisherman.
"Heng Ge, watch that float! When it gets dragged under by a fish, lift the rod! Whether we can have sweet and sour carp for lunch depends on you!" After giving him some instructions, he turned to set up his own rod, deciding not to let distractions interfere with Xin Ba and Mu Sa.
"Xiao Tian, I don’t know how! I’ve never fished before. Why don’t you fish with this while I keep you company?" Looking at the rod in his hands, A Heng wore an expression of confusion.
With firm resolve, he thought back to when Shi Ye and Air Force didn’t pull him into fishing either; why should this kid drag him into it? That was too presumptuous!
"Don’t worry! Just lift the rod when the float goes under; it's just for fun!" Not wanting A Heng to wait too long, he put down his own rod that hadn’t been cast yet and grabbed a handful of carp bait, planning to help him get started.
Now that the float had sunk completely, should he lift it?
As soon as A Heng spoke up, Shi Tian turned to look at A Heng's float and saw that it had indeed disappeared!
"Lift it now! Quick!"
As he lifted the rod, a splash echoed through the air. The three men on the other side immediately turned their attention to A Heng.
"Did you see that? That’s the power of Newbie Aura! You two are also newbies; where’s your aura?" Seeing A Heng catch a fish, the older man among them scolded the other two with a hint of frustration.
They felt helpless too; not only did he drag them along without daring to fish himself, but now he was blaming them for not catching big fish! The problem was that he hadn’t been fishing for big fish either!
Guiding A Heng as he played with the fish, the older brother came over with a net to help.
The fish wasn’t too big—just over a pound of carp—similar to those back home without much difference in color.
Once the fish was landed, Shi Tian quickly took out a bucket and tossed it inside after unhooking it. A Heng began actively asking Shi Tian for more bait.
"Xiao Tian, help me put on another piece of bait; I’ll stay here and fish with you for a bit longer." While others hadn’t caught anything yet, he had landed a big one and spoke with increased enthusiasm.
"Here, let me give you some; just hook it onto the elastic band."
He pulled out a small handful of Wo Liao from his pocket and handed it to A Heng, while also giving some to the old man.
"Old man, this Plastic Particles is really useful. I brought it over from the mainland; you should give it a try." As he passed it over, he added the old man to the waiting list. Next, Shi Tian was preparing to expand into international business!
