Carrying the gear, they hopped into the vehicle. This time, there was no need for Shi Tian to give directions; Old Mo didn’t even require a GPS, flooring the accelerator straight to yesterday's fishing spot.
Old Mo had checked the price of the rod last night and thought Shi Tian was trying to swindle him. However, after visiting the fishing tackle shop, he found that the price was exactly the same as Shi Tian's quote. Moreover, there was no stock available; if he wanted the rod, he would have to place an order and wait two weeks for delivery. This was also why Old Mo was willing to join Shi Tian in scavenging today.
In China, there was a similar product called Xing Brand, a knockoff version that was terrifyingly cheap—almost eight times less expensive. But considering the legends of Huaqiangbei, where even Apple watches could be bought at a fraction of their price, he wasn’t particularly interested in that Xing Brand rod.
Upon arriving at the fishing spot, he saw Old An had already set up his stall there.
“Got any bait?” Without waiting for Old An to respond, Old Mo tossed a handful of Wo Liao into Old An's bait tray. Instantly, Old An offered him a cigarette.
They hadn’t caught many decent fish, only a few Yellow Catfish. Sighing, Old Mo glanced at the bait tray filled with plastic particles—was that all? It felt a bit unsatisfying!
If it weren’t for this little bit of Wo Liao, they wouldn’t have come here to fish. On weekends when they had more time, they would venture further out to Lufu River, where there were plenty of big fish.
“Yellow Catfish are great! If you don’t want them, I’ll take them. I can stew them for lunch and we can have a couple of drinks together.” He looked at Old An’s Yu Hu and noticed there were quite a few Yellow Catfish—enough for a good stew.
“All yours. Take them.” Old An gestured for Shi Tian to find his Yu Hu and poured the fish in, indicating that with careful rationing, they could make two stews.
“Xiao Tian, do you have any more plastic particles? I’d like to buy some from you later; I want to take them to Lu Fu River Bridge this afternoon for some fishing. There are big fish over there.” After pouring out the Yellow Catfish, Old An asked.
The small amount of plastic particles Shi Tian had given them would be quickly divided among the three of them, leaving nothing left to play with.
If he could get more Wo Liao from Shi Tian, they could spend an entire afternoon fishing at Lufu River and surely catch something substantial.
“I’ve got some left but didn’t bring it out today. Come by my place for lunch; I’ll treat you and give you some more.” The thought of enticing Old An with food had already locked onto his appetite; as long as Old An dared to join him for lunch, he would use his cooking skills to open up Old An’s wallet.
Glancing back at Shi Tian’s car parked by the roadside, Old An smiled slightly. “Sounds good! I’ll come over for lunch. Do you want to go fishing together at Lufu River this afternoon? The Black Fish over there are pretty good.”
Shi Tian’s car wasn’t available for sale around here; it must have been brought over from China.
The domestic car still bore Dashi plates, meaning someone had specifically arranged for it to be imported for personal use.
To bring over a luxury car just for his hobby and manage to get local plates meant that ordinary thieves and con artists wouldn’t have such capabilities; therefore, going over to Shi Tian’s place for lunch was definitely safe.
Shi Tian seemed like someone who had just arrived here—perhaps even visiting Africa for the first time—and dared to invite someone he had only met two or three times back home. Didn’t he realize this wasn’t abroad? His sense of safety was too lax; he needed a reminder during lunch.
Even among acquaintances abroad, it was wise to be cautious; otherwise, one could easily get taken advantage of.
Pingtou Ge had been having headaches lately as people kept trying to get their hands on his boat. That group treated his boat like a racing vessel and even wanted to modify it.
“Bro, when can I get the boat registered under my name? I’ve already bought two external engines; they should easily reach seventy knots. As soon as I pay up, I can start modifying it.”
The boat belonged to Pingtou Ge; modifications were definitely out of the question. “So what should we do? Just throw money at it! Can’t we just buy it outright?”
The civilian speedboat was nearing its limit at around ten knots; any faster would require modifications.
As for military speedboats, there were indeed faster ones. At the recent defense exhibition in Singapore, a boat capable of reaching one hundred and twenty knots was showcased, akin to a two-hundred-mile-per-hour racing boat. That was like an old man eating arsenic, clearly asking for trouble. However, such a vessel couldn't be operated by just anyone; it required proper training.
The two engines were not cheap either; they could probably buy a regular fishing boat. Modifying a boat wasn't as simple as just swapping out the engines; a whole series of upgrades would be necessary.
"Why the rush? Let me ask around. Once I secure the boat, I'll get it over to you right away. But with such high performance, you should prepare yourself mentally; the price will definitely be higher than that of an ordinary boat."
To buy the boat, this group of wealthy individuals from Beijing were pulling all sorts of tricks, each managing to get their licenses sorted out. They were just waiting on the boats now.
"Xiao Tian, help me order twenty more boats! How much will that be? I’ll transfer the money to you." Pingtou Ge wasn't worried about someone trying to take advantage of him. As long as the price was right, everything was negotiable. His goal wasn’t too ambitious—he aimed to trade one for two, doubling his investment while still being fair.
"What about your own boats? Don’t you already have ten? Is that not enough? Is business really that booming?"
When Shi Tian received Pingtou Ge's call, he was somewhat surprised. Was business on Diaoyu Island really that good? Ten boats weren’t sufficient?
"I sold them all; they’re all gone to my younger brothers. You can set your price; even if it’s a bit higher than market value, that’s fine."
Upon hearing about the money, Shi Tian perked up immediately.
"Twenty boats? I can get that sorted within a month."
"Do you want alloy ships or fiberglass ones? The alloy ships are a bit pricier but can be used for landing on islands, which is quite convenient. I heard from Ye Ge that the old man over there also ordered ten boats."
A few days ago, the old man had sent a small knife he obtained from Shi Tian to the laboratory for testing. Once the results came back, he immediately called Shi Ye to order ten alloy ships, although production hadn’t started yet.
Shi Ye had confirmed this with Shi Tian over the phone and was currently preparing materials; once those were ready, production could begin.
Shi Tian's alloy ships had never been seen by the old man before, but judging by the small knife from Shi Tian, it was clear that the steel used was exceptionally strong.
Dismantling equipment no longer satisfied these old men; they were now preparing to dismantle boats instead. Once they got their hands on the steel, even if they didn’t dare to reforge it completely, simply hammering it into shape combined with routers would allow them to create some small gadgets without much trouble.
When the time came to load them onto boats heading towards the Philippines, they could easily produce one boat after another and see if anyone still had time to mess around!
