The Project Department was not lacking in fishermen or rods, but it certainly needed good rods. It was said that there was a Chinese fishing tackle shop in Dashi, and Shi Tian had managed to find out the address, planning to check it out soon.
However, his urgent trip to Dashi was not just to visit the fishing tackle shop; he had come to recover from injuries. Both of his bodyguards were hurt. They had been fishing at Lufu River every day and had caught the attention of some troublemakers. Just as they arrived at the river in the morning, before they could even unpack their gear, seven or eight thugs surrounded them. Xin Ba and Mu Sa quickly shoved him into the car, slamming the door shut as a brawl erupted outside.
By the time he realized what was happening, blood was already flowing like a river outside. Xin Ba and Mu Sa's fighting skills were impressive; they didn't even draw their knives. Using only the small black wooden sticks in their hands, they took down two of the thugs in the first round. Shi Tian was surprised by how powerful those little sticks could be!
When he finally reacted and got out of the car to join the fight, the group of thugs had already scattered like birds. Looking at the two thugs lying on the ground, Shi Tian was at a loss about what to do next. He called A Heng, and the three of them quickly got into the car and rushed to Dashi for treatment.
During that brief moment when they were getting into the car, both bodyguards had taken a few hits and were injured; they ended up needing stitches at the hospital. Seeing one with a bandaged head and the other with a bandaged arm made Shi Tian feel inexplicably distressed; they had taken these injuries for him.
Fortunately, those thugs hadn’t used knives or guns; otherwise, Xin Ba and Mu Sa might have ended up dead at Lufu River. After getting stitched up and treated with medicine, they lay on chairs in the courtyard, staring at each other in silence.
"Do you think those two guys we knocked down will die?" Shi Tian asked Xin Ba, feeling a bit uneasy. Thankfully, both Xin Ba and Mu Sa had gone to the hospital for checks and only sustained minor injuries that would heal in a few days.
"They're just Ababa; it won’t be a problem if they die. The police won’t care!" Before Xin Ba could speak, Mu Sa casually said while touching his knife at his waist.
Shi Tian knew that Ababa referred to thieves in Swahili. He had overestimated their command of Chinese; their level was comparable to his own Swahili. Now all three of them were mixing Chinese, English, and Swahili together, using some sign language as well—half of their communication relied on guessing.
"Boss, we shouldn’t go back to Lufu River for now. We can only go back once the police have caught them all." Compared to Mu Sa, Xin Ba was much calmer.
Shi Tian understood what Xin Ba meant; he was worried about retaliation from those thugs' families. There was no way he would foolishly walk into danger anytime soon. Those who had fled were one thing; but for those lying on the ground with uncertain fates—if they were to die—it would be better for him to prepare to leave for home.
However, the likelihood of their demise seemed slim; it was best to wait and see!
"You both did well today. If it weren't for you two, I would have been the one taking hits!" After saying this, he pulled out four hundred thousand cash—giving each of them one hundred thousand as a bonus.
One hundred thousand wasn’t much—just under a hundred dollars—but it represented more than half a month’s salary for them. It wasn't that Shi Tian was stingy; he couldn't give out bonuses all at once since he still needed to distribute salaries at the beginning of next month and would also need to give year-end bonuses later on!
Though it seemed unlikely there would be any year-end bonuses since he wouldn’t be around until then—he’d probably stay for just two or three months at most—and giving out quarterly bonuses would suffice as well.
"Boss, it's only right that we protect you since you pay us our salaries. We can't accept this money," Shi Tian said, suggesting that they should receive bonuses. Xin Ba, on the other hand, became quite courteous.
