Chen Xuan groggily woke up. His head throbbed painfully, a lingering effect of overthinking before sleep.
As he scanned the room, he was surprised to find no sign of the Watermelon Demon.
Where did it go? Chen Xuan muttered to himself as he got out of bed and pushed open the door.
Stepping outside the wooden house, he spotted the Watermelon Demon wandering in the watermelon field, stopping intermittently as if searching for something.
What are you doing? Chen Xuan asked, finding a stool to sit on while rubbing his temples.
My lord, I'm looking for the sweetest watermelon for you! The Watermelon Demon exclaimed with a smile upon seeing Chen Xuan.
Good job! Chen Xuan replied, "Just pick any; they’re all ordinary Qilin Watermelons, and they can’t taste that bad."
Yes, my lord! The Watermelon Demon quickly bent down and began selecting from the nearby watermelons. After a moment of careful choosing, it finally picked one and walked back to Chen Xuan with satisfaction.
Chen Xuan washed up briefly and then retrieved a kitchen knife from inside the house.
The Watermelon Demon placed the watermelon on a small table and respectfully stepped aside.
Sit down, don’t be so formal! Chen Xuan said casually as he took a seat on the stool.
The Watermelon Demon smiled shyly and sat down as well.
Now that’s more like it! Chen Xuan chuckled heartily. He raised the knife, ready to cut into the watermelon when suddenly his gaze froze.
Is this a Qilin Watermelon?
On the small table sat a plump, round watermelon with distinct patterns that looked ordinary at first glance but gave Chen Xuan an oddly translucent feeling.
He sniffed the air and was suddenly hit by a refreshing fragrance that was comforting, reminiscent of the tenderest grass in springtime.
What is that smell?
Chen Xuan twitched his nose in search of the source until his gaze landed back on the watermelon on the table.
The smell of the watermelon? He leaned in closer in surprise and took a deep sniff.
A wave of fragrant aroma surged into his nostrils.
It really is!
Chen Xuan's eyes lit up; this watermelon was indeed something special.
Lifting the kitchen knife, he applied a slight pressure.
Pop!
The watermelon split open, revealing its deep red flesh, and the fragrance intensified, almost overwhelming.
Chen Xuan inhaled deeply, a smile unconsciously spreading across his face.
With swift movements, he cut the watermelon into small pieces and eagerly picked one up to take a bite.
Splash!
Juice splattered everywhere as the succulent flesh rolled around in his mouth, a wave of sweetness flooding his senses. Chen Xuan's eyes widened in surprise, and he couldn't help but let out a satisfied moan.
Delicious!
He shouted joyfully, finishing off the piece of watermelon in just a few bites.
One piece after another.
In the blink of an eye, Chen Xuan devoured half of the watermelon!
What bliss!
He held his stomach contentedly, a look of satisfaction on his face: he had never tasted such delicious watermelon in his life!
"If you like it, I'll provide you with this kind of watermelon every day!" the Watermelon Demon said with a smile from the side.
Hmm?
Chen Xuan paused, glancing at the Watermelon Demon and then at the remaining half of the watermelon on the table. He asked in confusion, "Did you just say this watermelon was provided by you?"
"Yes." The Watermelon Demon scratched his head sheepishly. "Since you weren't here yesterday, I took care of these watermelons. I was in a rush, so I hope you don't mind."
Chen Xuan remained silent but gave the Watermelon Demon a deep look.
Rising to his feet, Chen Xuan strode toward the watermelon field. As he examined the melons growing there, gradually, his eyes lit up, and he couldn't help but feel tears of excitement welling up in his eyes.
Everywhere he looked, there were rows upon rows of watermelons—over twenty acres filled with perfectly round and plump fruits, their rinds marked with clear stripes and exuding a delightful aroma.
Chen Xuan casually opened a few watermelons for inspection; the deep red flesh did not disappoint!
Chen Xuan couldn't help but clench his fist and shout in excitement! Although he didn't know how the Watermelon Demon had managed it, he understood that such delicious watermelons could easily fetch a high price! His farm was just starting out, and he needed more money to develop it.
With this thought in mind, Chen Xuan could no longer contain himself. He eagerly called out to the Watermelon Demon, saying loudly, "Quick, set up a stall by the roadside! Today, we’re selling watermelons!"
The Watermelon Demon hurriedly grabbed a small table and ran toward the roadside, while Chen Xuan followed closely behind, cradling the freshly cut watermelon. They stacked a dozen more watermelons on the ground, and a makeshift watermelon stall was completed.
Chen Xuan found a piece of cardboard and pondered for a moment before finally writing a phrase on it with a black marker: "Variety Watermelon, Sweeter than First Love, per Jin."
After finishing, Chen Xuan sat calmly on a stool, waiting for customers to arrive. As the sun gradually rose higher in the sky, people came and went along the road. However, after waiting for quite some time, not a single customer had come to buy watermelons.
This wouldn't do. Chen Xuan raised an eyebrow, realizing that his location was somewhat remote; it would take time for customers to come by. He needed to find a busier place.
Where could he go? Chen Xuan furrowed his brow in thought as he watched cars pass by on the road. Suddenly, an idea struck him—Da Feng Farm! That was undoubtedly the liveliest place nearby with the most people!
With this thought in mind, Chen Xuan could no longer sit still. He ran back to the wooden cabin and brought out his tricycle. After loading all the watermelons onto the vehicle, he stepped on the gas and drove toward Da Feng Farm.
