Since Zhang Feng brought her in, Zhang Gaoshan had already figured out who Dong Li was. She was someone who had never lifted a finger to do any work, completely untouched by the mundane tasks of life. Both Zhang Gaoshan and Zhang Feng were aware of this, and even Zhang Cuifang had noticed it to some extent.
So, when they saw Dong Li smiling brightly at that moment, all three of them were momentarily taken aback, unable to process what was happening.
Zhang Cuifang was the first to recover, quickly saying, "No, no! You are guests; how can we let you do any work?" She insisted, "Please sit down. I'll just whip up a few home-cooked dishes."
As she spoke, Zhang Cuifang reached for the ingredients in Dong Li's hands. However, Dong Li held on tightly as if clutching onto a great treasure. With a playful smile, she said, "Auntie, we are family! How can I let you do all the cooking by yourself? We should do this together! Let me help you out."
With that, Dong Li pushed Zhang Cuifang into the kitchen without giving her a chance to protest. In the midst of calling her "Auntie," Zhang Cuifang found herself completely lost in the moment.
Throughout it all, Chen Xuan watched with a smile on his face. He understood why Dong Li had changed so much, but he chose not to say anything. He was more than happy to see Aunt Zhang Cuifang enjoying herself.
Clearing his throat lightly, Zhang Gaoshan redirected Chen Xuan's attention and started chatting with him. Meanwhile, Zhang Feng occasionally chimed in with laughter. The room was filled with bursts of hearty laughter from time to time.
The atmosphere was a world apart from just a moment ago.
As they chatted, Zhang Gaoshan let out a faint sigh, his expression turning somber. He spoke in a low voice, "Chen Xuan, my luck hasn’t been good lately. I’ve lost quite a bit in business. Since you’re asking for money ahead of time, please don’t hold it against me."
Chen Xuan shook his head, indicating that he wasn’t bothered by it.
Seeing this, Zhang Gaoshan seized the opportunity to continue, "Chen Xuan, I’m planning to invest in opening a supermarket. I’ve almost got the funds and location sorted out; now all I need is a good start."
As he spoke, Zhang Gaoshan casually glanced at Chen Xuan.
Chen Xuan smiled, instantly understanding Zhang Gaoshan's intentions. By the time the supermarket opened, he figured his Chicken Coop would have expanded significantly. At that point, supplying Zhang Gaoshan's store shouldn’t be a problem.
"This is easy to arrange. When the time comes, just give me a spot and I’ll supply you with a batch of eggs," Chen Xuan said.
"That would be fantastic!" Zhang Gaoshan exclaimed joyfully, unable to contain his excitement as he stood up and shook Chen Xuan’s hand enthusiastically.
"What’s got everyone so happy?"
Zhang Cuifang emerged from the kitchen carrying several dishes, followed closely by the obedient Dong Li.
"Auntie, let me help!"
Zhang Feng quickly stood up and took the tray from Zhang Cuifang’s hands, carefully placing it on the table.
Zhang Feng’s eager demeanor surprised Zhang Cuifang, making her pause in confusion. She wondered how this couple had suddenly changed their attitude. Just over an hour ago, they had been so distant; now they were acting so attentive. What had caused such a shift?
Zhang Cuifang may live in the countryside, but she is far from foolish; she has experienced enough of the ways of the world. However, after thinking for a long time, she still couldn't understand why Zhang Feng and his wife were so eager to curry favor with her.
Little did Zhang Cuifang know, this was just the beginning.
The whole family sat down to eat. A few home-cooked dishes were prepared by Zhang Cuifang, each looking and smelling delicious.
Just as Zhang Cuifang picked up her bowl, Dong Li obediently served her a large chicken leg.
"Auntie, you've worked hard. Please eat more meat."
"Hehe, you should eat too! Have some more meat yourself."
"Auntie, your cooking is really delicious!"
"If it's good, then eat more!"
"Auntie, you look great! How do you usually take care of yourself?"
