After a round of pleasantries, Professor Yang introduced Chen Xuan to everyone in the team. By this time, the sky was getting dark, and Professor Yang decisively announced that work for the day was over.
"Yue, please arrange a room for Chen Xuan," he instructed.
The members of the lab cheered as they clocked out, with some already organizing activities. Professor Yang approached Liu Yue and gave her a task.
"Sure, Professor," Liu Yue replied with a bright smile, secretly giving him a thumbs-up.
Professor Yang winked back, as if to say he understood her enthusiasm.
"Brother, let's go! Our rooms are on the upper floor," Liu Yue said as she led Chen Xuan quickly to their floor, picking a room for him.
Just as Chen Xuan set down his things, he planned to call Zhang Cuifang to let her know he had arrived safely when there was a knock at the door.
Opening it, he found Liu Yue standing there, now dressed in a vibrant outfit that accentuated her charm.
With a playful smile, Liu Yue said, "Brother, you haven't had dinner yet, right? There's a nice Western restaurant nearby. Let me take you to try it out!"
"Okay, I'll go change first," Chen Xuan replied.
He closed the door to change his clothes while Liu Yue happily waited outside. Suddenly, the door next door opened.
It was Zhang Hou, sporting a messy hairstyle. Upon seeing Liu Yue, his eyes lit up and he grinned, "Hey junior sister, you look quite lovely today! What’s up? Going on a blind date?"
"What's wrong with you?" Liu Yue shot a glance at Zhang Hou.
Zhang Hou didn't mind and chuckled. He glanced at the door number next door and suddenly realized, "Are you waiting for Brother Chen? I heard he’s coming over. Are you going out to eat? Count me in!"
With that, Zhang Hou turned back to his room to change clothes.
Liu Yue's eye twitched, and her expression immediately soured.
Just then, Chen Xuan came out after changing his clothes. He smiled and said, "Who were you just talking to? It sounded like Zhang Hou."
"Oh, it was just a passing waiter," Liu Yue replied sweetly. "Senior Brother, are you ready? Let's head out."
"Sure!"
Chen Xuan and Liu Yue walked out together, looking like a perfect match.
The elevator arrived just in time. The two laughed as they stepped inside. Just as the doors were closing, Zhang Hou rushed in with a grin, blocking the doors.
"Phew! Made it! Senior Brother, why didn’t you wait for me?"
"I thought you weren't here!" Chen Xuan said.
"How could that be? I still have plans for you tonight! Senior Brother, what do you want to eat? I'll take care of it!"
"Anything!"
"Then let's have hot pot! There's a great place downstairs. We can enjoy a few drinks and then discuss some issues in your room."
"Sounds good!"
Inside the elevator, Zhang Hou and Chen Xuan were deep in conversation while Liu Yue gradually darkened in mood.
They spent dinner until after nine o'clock, discussing several topics with Zhang Hou.
It wasn't until after ten o'clock at night that Chen Xuan finally found some time to relax and prepare for bed. However, before he went to sleep, he decided to call Zhang Cuifang to let her know he was safe.
Just then, a notification popped up on his WeChat. Curious, Chen Xuan clicked to accept it, and a video call immediately came through.
Who could this be? Chen Xuan furrowed his brows but still accepted the call. The video connected.
