If we don't come up with any countermeasures, the Board of Directors will likely send us to prison.
Upon hearing this, the atmosphere shifted as the terrifying and mysterious Board of Directors loomed in everyone's minds. The executives of the Monsanto Group finally showed a hint of concern on their faces.
After a moment of silence, someone finally spoke up; it was Dias, the Chief Scientific Expert of the Monsanto Group.
With a sense of helplessness, he said, "Zack, we have spent hundreds of millions of dollars and an entire year to painstakingly develop Eve. But now, Nong Wang Ying Tuan has managed to create a product that is far superior to ours in just one month. I truly cannot believe how they did it; it seems like something only a deity could accomplish."
Dias looked utterly dejected.
"I don't want to hear your nonsense!" Zack snapped irritably. "Just tell me if we can launch a product better than theirs!"
Dias slowly shook his head. "It's impossible. Even if you give me another hundred million dollars, I can't make it happen. Zack, we've already lost completely in the Corn Field."
"Damn it." Zack slammed his fist on the table.
The sound echoed like a heavy hammer, striking silently at the hearts of everyone present.
The faces of all those in attendance turned grim. They knew that if the Corn Project, which the Board of Directors had high hopes for, collapsed, the plummeting stock prices would be the least of their worries. More importantly, Monsanto Group would completely lose its position as a leader in global agriculture.
They would also become a laughingstock among their peers and utterly lose Xia Country, the largest agricultural market in the world.
This was especially concerning since they had offended Xia Country quite severely just days ago.
The thought that this market, worth hundreds of billions of dollars annually, could potentially sever ties with Monsanto Group sent chills down their spines.
Zack's eyes twitched with a frantic intensity; he had an ominous feeling that his time in this position was coming to an end.
As this realization settled in, a wild idea flashed through Zack's mind. He slowly raised his head and fixed his crazed gaze on one of the senior executives—none other than the Chief Spokesperson of Monsanto Group.
Zack smiled faintly. "Bode, you mentioned before that if Nong Wang Ying Tuan could develop a product better than ours, the Monsanto Group would completely withdraw from Xia Guo Chang. Right?"
Bode's expression changed dramatically as he weakly replied, "President, you know I was just joking at that time."
"I know, but the Huaxia people are not joking with us; they are ruthless," Zack said bitterly. He shot a cold glance at Bode and said, "Bode, you're fired. Pack your things and get out."
"No!" Bode's face turned pale as he cried out, "President, you can't fire me! My wife just gave birth to a son, and I just bought a villa. I have tens of thousands of dollars in loans every month! Without this job, I will be ruined!"
"Shut up! Who the hell cares about your problems? We're barely hanging on ourselves," Zack said irritably, waving his hand. Suddenly, several tall security guards rushed in and dragged Bode out.
"President, you can't treat me like this!" Bode's cries faded away as he disappeared from view.
In the conference room, many executives shuddered at the scene.
"Zack is ruthless!" one senior executive remarked.
A high-ranking official who had served the Monsanto Group for decades was dismissed just like that.
"Everyone, stop worrying about that fool. Let's focus on ourselves," Zack said, loosening his tie in frustration. He slapped the table and spoke solemnly: "We absolutely cannot give up on Xia Guo Chang; the Monsanto Group cannot withdraw either. Let’s pretend that joke never happened. No one is allowed to communicate with the outside world, understood?"
The executives in the room nodded in agreement.
Satisfied with their response, Zack smiled slightly. After a moment of contemplation, he suddenly asked, "Where is Li Xinglan? Tell him we are facing a significant crisis and need him to make breakthroughs on his current projects quickly. I intend to use this project to leverage against Xia Country officials. This is our last chance."
As soon as these words were spoken, the atmosphere in the room shifted dramatically.
