"I don't know either!" Lin Yuan shrugged, looking utterly bewildered. "Suddenly... time just stopped." As he spoke, he exaggeratedly made a pause gesture, as if trying to freeze the air itself.
Su Jiu'er stared intently at Lin Yuan, her gaze filled with curiosity, like she was examining a rare treasure or a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment.
"Lin Yuan, how many secrets do you really have?" A hint of tremor laced Su Jiu'er's voice, betraying her usual calm demeanor.
Lin Yuan habitually stroked his chin, lost in thought like an old scholar. "Uh... well," he paused dramatically for effect, "secrets are like the stars in the sky—countless! But this new ability catching me off guard feels like... like suddenly winning five million in the lottery—exciting yet terrifying!"
The two returned to Su Jiu'er's secret apartment located in the city center. The apartment was hidden within an ordinary residential building; without Su Jiu'er leading the way, Lin Yuan would never have found the entrance.
"Let's not talk about that for now," Lin Yuan shook his head, trying to cast aside the chaotic thoughts like swatting away an annoying fly. "Healing is more important; I don't want to end up as a mummy!"
Su Jiu'er nodded, retrieving a medical kit and starting to tend to Lin Yuan's wounds. Her movements were gentle and practiced, reminiscent of an experienced surgeon. Watching her serious demeanor, Lin Yuan couldn't help but tease, "Doctor Su, with skills like yours, it's a shame you’re not working as a royal physician!"
Ignoring him, Su Jiu'er replied coolly, "Stop joking around and sit still."
Once the bandaging was complete, Lin Yuan felt much better and his spirits lifted considerably. He stretched lazily and moved his limbs, feeling rejuvenated.
"Now, can you demonstrate your 'time pause' for me?" Su Jiu'er’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, like a child who had just discovered a fascinating new toy.
Lin Yuan grinned mischievously, wearing a sly expression. "Sure! What do you want to see? Breaking stones with my chest? Or flying through the air?"
Su Jiu'er rolled her eyes at him. "Be serious!"
Lin Yuan walked over to the table and picked up a cartoon-patterned teacup. He gently released it from his grip. "Witness the moment of wonder!" he declared theatrically.
The cup hovered in mid-air, motionless as if it had been enchanted with a spell of suspension.
Su Jiu'er widened her eyes in disbelief, her mouth agape enough to fit an egg.
"How about that? Impressive, right?" Lin Yuan raised an eyebrow proudly, like a child waiting for praise.
Su Jiu'er said nothing. Instead, she walked over to the cup, examining it closely as if trying to see through it. She reached out and gently poked the cup that hung in mid-air, but it remained completely still.
"This... how is this possible?" she murmured, her brow furrowed in confusion.
Lin Yuan snapped his fingers, producing a crisp "pop." "Alright, the magic show is over!"
The cup suddenly fell freely, crashing to the ground and shattering into pieces with a loud clatter.
Su Jiu'er jumped at the sound but quickly regained her composure. She stared at the shards on the floor, her expression complex as if deep in thought.
"What is the principle behind this?" She looked at Lin Yuan, her eyes filled with questions, like a student eager for knowledge.
Lin Yuan shrugged innocently. "How would I know? I haven't figured myself out yet! Maybe I'm an alien with hidden superpowers!"
Su Jiu'er stepped closer to Lin Yuan and said earnestly, "Lin Yuan, this isn't a joke. This kind of ability is too bizarre and could harbor significant risks. It's like a double-edged sword; if used well, it can vanquish demons, but if misused, it could harm you."
Lin Yuan nodded in agreement. "I know, that's why I need to understand its origins and implications before I accidentally mess things up."
"Have you considered that this might be related to your training with the Ancient Martial Arts Manuscript?" Su Jiu'er suggested tentatively.
Lin Yuan pondered for a moment, stroking his chin. "It's possible. Ever since I started practicing this Cultivation Method, my body has been changing—like an old car getting a new engine; it's powerful but hard to control."
"You must use this ability cautiously," Su Jiu'er warned. "Otherwise, the consequences could be dire—like playing with fire and getting burned."
Lin Yuan took a deep breath. "I understand, I'll be careful and won't use it recklessly, unless... unless I encounter an emergency situation like last time."
He closed his eyes and attempted to activate the Time Manipulator once more. This time, he aimed to extend the pause duration, as if challenging his own limits.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Suddenly, Lin Yuan felt a sharp pain in his head, as if someone were hammering away at his brain with a heavy mallet. His vision blurred, and he felt himself swaying, on the verge of collapsing.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed, quickly supporting him like a tree about to fall.
Lin Yuan's face turned pale, cold sweat pouring down as he felt completely drained of energy, as if he had just run a marathon.
Su Jiu'er hurriedly administered acupuncture, her technique skilled and precise, akin to a master embroiderer at work. At the same time, she analyzed the energy consumption mechanism of the Time Manipulator, much like a scientist studying a complex formula.
"It seems your body can't handle prolonged Time-Space Manipulation," Su Jiu'er said. "You need to control the frequency and duration of use; otherwise, it could cause irreversible damage to your body, just like an overworked machine that will eventually break down."
Lin Yuan nodded, feeling grateful. He was relieved that Su Jiu'er was there; otherwise, the consequences would have been dire. He glanced at her appreciatively and said, "Thank you, Su Jiu'er. If it weren't for you, I might have..."
"We need to find a way to apply this ability in our actions against the Qi Gong Association," Lin Yuan suggested. "This could be our trump card, like a bomb in Dou Di Zhu that can turn the tide at a critical moment!"
Su Jiu'er pondered for a moment. "We can use the time difference to create tactical advantages and catch them off guard, just like a Wonderful Move in Go that leaves them defenseless."
"Great idea!" Lin Yuan exclaimed excitedly, his eyes shining. "Now we can toy with them like a cat playing with a mouse!"
"But we must also be cautious," Su Jiu'er reminded, "This ability is too extraordinary. If it gets exposed, it could attract even greater trouble, just like... like poking a hornet's nest, it will draw a swarm of enemies."
Lin Yuan nodded. "I understand. I will be careful and won't let them discover my secret."
"And," Su Jiu'er added, "the source and method of your ability are still a mystery. We need to explore and study further, just like archaeologists uncovering ancient tombs, revealing the secrets step by step."
Lin Yuan took a deep breath, knowing that the road ahead was long and filled with unknown challenges and risks.
But for the sake of justice in his heart, for the flame of revenge, he had to keep moving forward and never give up.
Su Jiu'er looked at Lin Yuan's determined gaze, feeling an inexplicable surge of emotion within her.
She knew that this man was destined for greatness.
And she was willing to stand by his side, facing the storms of the future together.
Suddenly, a rapid knocking at the door shattered the tranquility of the room.
Who could it be?
Could it be the people from the Qi Gong Association coming after them?
