Han Lingyun stood in front of Lin Yuan, a cold smile curling at the corners of her mouth, resembling a proud peacock. "Oh, isn't this our great hero Lin Yuan? What’s the matter? Here to ruin my good time?" She flicked her bangs back, her eyes filled with provocation.
Lin Yuan rolled his eyes. This woman was truly relentless; he seemed to run into her no matter where he went. "Miss Han, can we not jump out like programmed robots every time? It’s getting old. At least update your entrance a bit!"
"Robot? Heh, you’ll soon find out who really needs a reboot!" Han Lingyun's gaze turned icy as a shimmering blue dagger suddenly appeared in her hand, wrapped in spiritual energy and buzzing like a coiled snake ready to strike. "Today, I’ll show you what true power looks like! You’ll understand why the flowers are so red!"
"Hey, hey, hey, stop right there!" Zhou Haoran quickly jumped in between them, looking exasperated, much like a kindergarten teacher trying to break up a fight. "I say, ladies and gentlemen, can we pause the personal grudges for a moment? The apocalypse is almost upon us, and you still have time for this love-hate drama? Can we focus on the real issue first? I’m starving here!"
Su Jiu'er also approached, her brows furrowed as she sighed in resignation. "Hao Ran is right; this isn’t the time for infighting. Our priority is to stop Nan Gong Xuan; otherwise, the consequences will be dire." She turned to Han Lingyun with a serious tone. "Lingyun, I know you have issues with Lin Yuan, but now is not the time to settle personal scores. The bigger picture matters! You wouldn’t want to be caught up in petty squabbles when the world is ending, would you?"
Han Lingyun huffed and put away her dagger, though her eyes still glinted with hostility like an agitated cat. "Hmph! I’ll let you off this time, but I’ll settle this score later! I’ve noted it down!"
"Alright, alright, let’s move! My time is precious!" Lin Yuan waved his hand impatiently and led the way toward the base entrance while muttering under his breath, "Women are such a hassle!"
The squad members followed closely behind, the atmosphere tense like soldiers preparing for battle.
Outside the Experimental Base, high-tech traps loomed ominously, flashing with dangerous light.
Su Jiu'er utilized advanced scanning equipment to analyze the base's defense system and discovered laser defense grids and invisible monitors among other high-tech traps. Her brows knitted together as if she were solving a complex math problem. "Nan Gong Xuan is indeed cautious; he’s set up so many high-tech traps that one might think this was an alien base!"
Zhang Qiang was eager to try his hand at it, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. "What’s there to be afraid of? Let me give it a shot! I’m an explosives expert!" He dashed forward like a cheetah towards the laser defense grid, moving faster than lightning.
"Be careful!" Lin Yuan shouted urgently, but it was already too late.
A blinding red laser struck Zhang Qiang, and he let out a scream, "Oh my God!" before being thrown backward, crashing heavily to the ground, his life hanging in the balance like a fly swatted away.
"Zhang Qiang!" Li Mei exclaimed, rushing over to check on him. Anxiously, she called out, "Are you okay? Talk to me!"
Lin Yuan's expression changed as he activated the Time Manipulator, pausing time. The world seemed to be pressed on pause; everything stood still while only Lin Yuan could move freely. He quickly dashed to Zhang Qiang's side and assessed his injuries. Fortunately, it was just a laser burn with no serious harm done—only a hole burned in his shirt, revealing his undershirt beneath.
Lin Yuan sighed in relief and resumed the flow of time. The world started moving again, and Li Mei's voice rang out once more: "Zhang Qiang, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, just a bit of pain," Zhang Qiang replied, clutching his wound and grimacing.
"Li Mei, take care of Zhang Qiang," Lin Yuan instructed.
"Got it!" Li Mei nodded and began tending to Zhang Qiang's injury, skillfully pulling out bandages and antiseptic.
Lin Yuan turned to Su Jiu'er. "Jiu'er, can you find the weak point in the laser defense grid? We can't rely on me pausing time every time; my abilities aren't limitless."
Su Jiu'er nodded, her compass spinning rapidly until the needle pointed in one direction. "Found it! Over there! The energy fluctuations of the lasers are weakest at that spot."
Without hesitation, Lin Yuan led the Squad members toward the weak point. They carefully dodged the Laser Beams, moving like agile monkeys through the trees, ultimately breaking through the first line of defense.
However, before they could catch their breath, they encountered new trouble.
An invisible surveillance system activated, and a red alarm light flashed as it locked onto Li Mei.
"Not good, Li Mei has been discovered!" Wang Gang exclaimed. "This surveillance system is too concealed; if it weren't for the alarm light, we wouldn't have noticed it at all!"
Su Jiu'er quickly employed her special skills to interfere with the AI Monitoring System, buying time for the Squad. "I can only temporarily disrupt the AI Monitoring System; you all need to hurry! This system is highly advanced, and I can't hold it off for long!"
Lin Yuan nodded and led the Squad members forward, moving like a group of ghosts through the darkness.
Wang Gang accidentally triggered a minefield, and the ground shook as an explosion seemed imminent.
In a critical moment, Lin Yuan activated the Time Manipulator again, reversing time to avoid the explosion while analyzing the layout of the mines. He discovered that their arrangement surprisingly corresponded to the principles of the Five Elements Eight Trigrams.
"Follow me!" Lin Yuan instructed his Squad members as they carefully navigated around the minefield, each step precise as if walking on a series of stepping stones.
Finally, they successfully bypassed all the outer traps and reached the edge of the Core Area of the Experimental Base. Before them stood a massive Metal Door, exuding a sense of advanced technology.
However, they soon realized that the interior of the base was heavily guarded, with numerous Guards in black uniforms patrolling back and forth, indicating an even greater challenge ahead.
Lin Yuan took a deep breath; he knew that the real battle was just beginning.
Inside the base, Nan Gong Xuan stood before the control console, a manic smile spreading across his face. "Lin Yuan, you finally made it! I've been waiting for you for so long!"
