A loud roar echoed as the brown bear swiped its terrifying paws across its face, disregarding the two fleeing targets. It turned to chase after the one who dared to provoke it, Xu Li, as both man and beast sprinted across the grass.
Panting heavily, Xu Li could hear the bear's heavy breaths and low growls growing closer behind him. He hunched down and ran faster, not daring to look back, his eyes fixed on the chainsaw leaning against a tree stump.
He gasped for air, his tongue hanging out as he angled his body slightly. Grabbing the chainsaw's handle, he took off running, but tripped over a tree root and stumbled. The bear seized the opportunity, extending its right paw to swipe at him.
With a sharp sound, Xu Li felt a searing pain in his back. Bloodshot eyes filled with fury, he gritted his teeth against the agony and pulled the chainsaw while darting into the woods. He weaved around several tree trunks, finally managing to start the chainsaw: vroom vroom vroom.
"Come on!" he shouted as he spun around and swung the chainsaw. The chain whirred past the bear's head, nicking one of its ears. This infuriated the bear, which glared at him with blood-red eyes and roared in response.
"You want my life? I'll send you to your grave first!" Xu Li cursed as he thrust the chainsaw forward, driving the spinning blade into the bear's gaping mouth: vroom vroom vroom.
Blood sprayed across his face as the bear recoiled in pain. Just as it was about to escape from the chainsaw's grip, Xu Li stepped forward and forcefully shoved it deeper into its mouth.
With a final gasp, the bear managed to free itself from the torment of the chainsaw, but not without losing a significant portion of its face in the process. Its jaw hung loosely, blood gushing from its throat.
Meanwhile, Xu Li's chainsaw became lodged in a nearby tree. Before he could pull it free, the dying bear swatted him away with a powerful paw. He felt as if his chest had shattered upon impact with a tree trunk before crashing down onto the ground.
Gasping for breath, he barely had time to react when the frenzied bear clamped down on his calf and began to thrash him about. Its front paws raked across his body as if venting its own pain. Blood poured from Xu Li like a ruptured gourd. The bear's remaining eye began to glaze over before it finally coughed up blood and collapsed on top of him, motionless.
Despite his bloodied and battered face, Xu Li managed to muster a faint smile of relief as torrents of blood flowed from his mouth.
"Daddy! Daddy!"
The two sisters stumbled their way through the ranch, not spotting Andrei. They stood there crying loudly. Sensing something was wrong with Popov and Pushkin reinforcing the low fence nearby, Popov approached them with a sledgehammer in hand. "What happened? Did Misha bully you?"
Xiong Misha was fighting with the bear.
