This is my makeshift music room, where our cat, Dong, often gets bored. During my free time, I sing a little to entertain myself. Anan's camera panned around the room filled with various instruments, showcasing classical, modern, and several electronic ones.
The next room featured a fireplace, a large recliner, and walls adorned with bookshelves filled with all kinds of books. My daughter loves listening to various stories, but since I didn't have a proper education, my knowledge is limited. I try to read more whenever I can so that I can tell her stories at night.
Whenever I mention my daughter, a genuine smile spreads across his face, softening his previously fierce and ugly demeanor with a touch of warmth and kindness. This is roughly how my home is laid out.
Xu Li brought Anan to the yard: there are plans to expand with another row of rooms in the future. When the kids grow up and start families of their own, it will be nice for them to have a place to stay during holidays.
"Brother Xu, how long has it been since you returned to your hometown in Huaxia?" Anan suddenly asked. Xu Li was taken aback for a moment before sighing: "It's been over ten years. The last time I went back was when Lao San needed to register for household registration."
He sighed again, his lips curling into a bittersweet smile: "Wherever my wife and kids are is home for me. I came to Irkutsk alone when I was just over ten years old; this place is my second hometown."
Anan then asked: "So your children are registered in our area? Are you still a Huaxia citizen?"
"Yes, why not?" Xu Li replied, somewhat puzzled. "Why are you surprised that I still identify as Huaxia?"
In our country, when people go abroad, they usually choose to adopt local citizenship to better integrate into life there. I thought you might have changed your nationality too.
Xu Li scoffed dismissively and turned the question back on Anan: "There are plenty of wealthy immigrants from our country avoiding taxes. What do you think of them?"
Anan chuckled awkwardly: "What can I say? Someone like me has no right to judge others."
"You may not dare to say it, but I will," Xu Li said with a grin. "Don’t let the size of my ranch fool you; it seems profitable, but I pay two sets of taxes every year—one local and one for Huaxia income tax. So I feel entitled to judge those freeloaders."
"They exploit the resources of our Motherland for their own gain but refuse to pay their fair share of taxes. What’s the difference between them and livestock? They’re just squids wearing yellow skin; even being around them makes me feel like the air is polluted."
Anan was left speechless: "Brother, you really speak your mind."
"Why shouldn’t I?" Xu Li retorted. "I do hard work for honest income without evading taxes. Occasionally, I even do some charity work. Don’t you think that gives me the right?"
Xu Li patted his shoulder and said, "Young people should be a bit more spirited and bold. We are honest citizens of Huaxia; if we can't stand something, we should speak up. Those scoundrels have done wrong and still expect us to stay silent?"
The scene then shifted to the evening, where Xu Li was grilling beef and lamb in the yard. In the video, everyone was laughing and enjoying dinner. He was as busy as ever, making sure the Old Couple had enough to eat while also tending to the charcoal fire and cutting meat and fruit for the children.
Anan's voice echoed alongside: "On that first night I arrived here, Brother Xu and I talked for a long time. He shared his poignant past and the little moments he had lived with his family over the years. I genuinely admire this man, who is still so young!"
The video then faded to black, with the words "To Be Continued" appearing on the screen before it ended. The video had been updated in the afternoon, quickly climbing to the top of trending searches with a striking title: "Have You Paid Your Taxes?"
