Anna drew circles on his chest, saying, "Young people should know moderation."
That saying didn’t apply to me; you knew that. Perhaps being stubborn was a man’s last act of defiance.
The next morning, the three of them tidied up the house, turned off the water and electricity, locked the villa, and then said goodbye to Father-in-law and Mother-in-law. They busied themselves with ranch matters. During the day, each had their own tasks: Xu Li went to the ranch while the sisters stayed home to clean and prepare meals. In their spare time, they rode Xiong Da and Xiong Er, carrying local specialties as they searched for game.
As night fell and temperatures dropped sharply, the three gathered in the transformed study, snuggling by the fireplace to read for a while. Occasionally, when emotions ran high, they would engage in playful contests. As for uploading short videos, that thought had long been forgotten by Xu Li.
"Brother Xu, it’s been over a month! When will you update?"
Bored, Anan called Xu Li, who was busy chopping wood for winter. Xu Li paused for a moment before bursting into laughter. "I forgot about that! Things have been hectic at the ranch. Once I finish up here in a few days, I’ll give it a try."
"Alright, I’ll be waiting!"
After hanging up, Anan stretched lazily as Xiao Dasha came running over. "Misha, let’s go back to our hometown! I haven’t seen Mom and Dad in over half a month!"
"Sure! Let’s pack our clothes first and then head to Huaxia City to buy some things."
"You’re so sweet!"
Dasha rewarded him with a kiss and skipped off to gather her clothes. Anan smiled as he tucked his phone away and began organizing things in the bedroom. This little girl had appeared during his lowest moments; to keep him in Irkutsk, she sought her family’s approval and stepped into marriage with him.
It was also through getting to know Dasha and her family that his second career began to flourish. Not only did it make up for previous losses, but he also bought a house and changed cars—all thanks to the support of Father-in-law and Mother-in-law. Therefore, visiting them every month was part of his duty as their son-in-law.
Once they finished packing, they chatted happily as they drove straight to Huaxia City.
"This is my ranch," Xu Li explained as they arrived. "It covers a large area; originally it was forested land that I cleared to plant pasture grass. I merged two plots into one big area, making it much easier for grazing and patrolling."
Creaking sounds echoed as Xu Li rode across the vast snowy expanse with Xiong Da and several patrolling employees beside him. He took out his phone and filmed everyone around him. Valery grinned widely. "Makarov, do you have a camera growing out of your head?"
Laughter erupted among the men as Xu Li turned the camera toward himself. "This is my daily work in Siberia—feeding cattle and sheep while patrolling near the edge of the forest."
"Makarov, come to Cattle Shed No. 5; there’s a brown bear lurking outside the low fence," came Andreev's voice over the radio.
Xu Li acknowledged him and urged his horse forward with his team in tow. Xiong Da ran almost as fast as the horses as they galloped westward along the low fence.
"Here! Here!" Andreev waved at them before pointing at a ten-centimeter gap in the low fence. "It looks like a mother bear ready to give birth; she didn’t find enough food before the snow fell and came here hoping for some luck."
Xu Li jumped off the horse and made his way to the edge of the Low Fence, stepping carefully as he went. He held his phone in hand, taking pictures as he looked out. Outside the Low Fence, a brown bear weighing around five pounds wandered about, occasionally resting its front paws on the fence and revealing a black nose that exhaled puffs of mist.
