He only realized he had been slacking off when he saw his score.
Xu Jiaguo chuckled as he patted his brother on the shoulder, "I scored one point higher than him!"
Xu Jia shot a sideways glance at Lao Si. "You always bring this up. Aren't you tired of it?"
"With those scores, you could probably get into any university in the country, right?" Jiang Xin remarked, surprised to learn that these two brothers were actually academic overachievers.
"Can your school even rank in the top ten?" Xu Jia asked.
"We didn't attend school," he replied, looking at the astonished faces around him. "The school occasionally informs us about exams, but most of the time we study at home. We wake up at five-thirty every morning to exercise, have breakfast by eight, and then start studying. We take a two-hour break at noon and practice vocal training at five-thirty in the evening. That's how high school is for us."
Yang Mi couldn't help but interject, "You guys are self-taught?"
Xu Jiaguo shook his head. "Not really. We have dedicated private tutors who teach us each subject for an hour every day. The teachers give us mock exams weekly; if we do well, we get weekends off; if not, we don’t."
Well, that explains why they sound so confident!
A few others exchanged glances and shook their heads, changing the subject.
The next morning, Huang San Shi stepped out of his room and stretched. The air in the mountains was refreshing; if it weren't for those pesky mosquitoes, it would be perfect!
"Good morning!" he greeted Uncle Huang.
"Morning!" Uncle Huang replied.
In the yard, the two brothers were doing push-ups and handstands in a continuous routine. Huang San Shi was taken aback. "You guys are up this early?"
"Yeah, we had a bit too much rice last night; we need to work it off," Xu Jiaguo said as he pushed himself up and stood tall, breathing heavily. He was wearing only a pair of beach shorts, beads of sweat glistening on his fair skin that looked even better than a young girl's. His well-defined muscles were strong without being bulky.
"Uncle, do you want to join us for some exercise? It's good for your health," Xu Jiaguo offered.
Xu Jia stood up as well and flashed a smile at Huang San Shi. "Many people in your family have health issues; exercising more could help."
"I can't manage that," Huang San Shi waved his hand dismissively as he headed to the bathroom while the brothers continued their workout. By the time the sun was high in the sky, Huang San Shi had prepared breakfast: congee with pickles and tomato egg noodles. When Jiang Xin came out to the yard with messy hair and a towel and toothbrush in hand, the brothers were already washing up by the sink.
Both of them were covered in foam, toothbrushes still in their mouths, and they stepped aside a bit when Jiang Xin arrived. "Good morning, sister," they greeted.
Jiang Xin raised her hand and poked Xu Jia's firm abdomen, a smile creeping onto her face as she said, "You two really have great figures. It's rare to see idols in the entertainment industry with bodies like yours."
The brothers chuckled sheepishly and continued brushing their teeth. After rinsing their heads, they waited for Jiang Xin to finish before picking up a basin of water to pour over themselves. The sunlight cast a soft glow on their youthful bodies, creating a misty sheen that, combined with their bright smiles and well-defined physiques, made several women who had just woken up swallow hard.
As the morning progressed, the crew began to set up with cameras and various equipment. The director certainly wouldn’t miss such a great opportunity for shots, keeping several cameras focused on them for quite some time.
While they were having breakfast, the director placed today’s task card on the table. "You can draw lots for your tasks; it’s not too difficult. Help Old He complete his assigned work, and based on your performance, he will provide you with some ingredients for lunch and dinner today."
