After more than a month of recovery, Ivan's facial injuries had finally healed. Taking advantage of the corn harvest, he brought Lana and their two children to the prison. The man signed the papers without hesitation, only asking Lana to raise the children well.
"Don't worry, just take care of the kids. If that man dares to mistreat you, I will deal with him once I’m out," he said, tightening his fists as he glanced at the figures loitering outside.
Lana's expression twitched slightly. She had intended to reach into her bag for money but paused, instead picking up Katyusha and taking Natasha with her as they left the room. The man watched his wife's mature figure, his throat tightening as he felt a surge of emotions while under the watchful eye of the prison guard.
As soon as they exited the prison, Lana called Xu Li. "He won't back down. He said he would come looking for Zhuo Ya and the others once he's out."
"I understand," Xu Li replied before hanging up. He lit a cigarette and dialed his brother-in-law, whom he hadn’t contacted in a while. "Busy?"
"Just finished a military exercise. What’s up?"
Boyka kicked back in his chair, propping his feet on the table as he listened to the entire story. He smirked and said, "This is simple. I can pin a charge on him from here; it’ll be done in a week at most." He hung up and picked up the phone again, dialing another number. "I just received a tip-off from a concerned citizen that a spy has been locked up in prison. I’ll issue a statement; you take some men over there and take care of that scum halfway—give him a bullet. People like him don’t deserve to see a military court."
"Understood, Teacher."
Soon after, a tall, muscular man entered the room, ready to leave with Boyka's written statement. Boyka tossed him two packs of Tian Xing cigarettes and pulled out ten stacks of cash from his drawer. "My brother-in-law gave me this; keep one pack for yourself to try. How’s your brother’s farm doing?"
The man grinned and nodded gratefully at Boyka. "My sister-in-law is pregnant again, and my parents and Little Sister are doing well. My kids were taken there for summer vacation too. Thank you for your support, Teacher!"
After receiving Boyka's nod, he turned and left the office. Boyka took a sip of tea, pondering how everyone wished for their family to thrive.
The next afternoon, a military jeep drove into the prison. In just over twenty minutes, a bald prisoner was dragged into the vehicle. That night, in a remote area, a gunshot rang out, and a lifeless body lay in an abandoned ditch as two soldiers with rifles doused it in gasoline before tossing in a match.
"All done, Commander," one soldier said.
The co-driver nodded and pulled out an envelope to distribute stacks of cash to each man. "What are we here for?"
"Heh heh heh, we came to visit family," one replied with satisfaction.
"Send this home to improve their lives," the muscular man instructed.
"Yes."
The jeep vanished into the wilderness, leaving behind only flames consuming flesh.
"You're here so early?" Xu Li remarked as he arrived from the farm just in time to see Ivan and Lana bringing gifts into their home. He scooped up Natasha and kissed her cheek. "Did you have fun?"
Daddy is so good to me.
Natasha wrapped her arms around Xu Li's neck, giggling, "Daddy bought me so many new clothes and toys, and we also had a lot of delicious food!"
