Hearing the howls of wolves, everyone instantly became alert. Li Hu tightened his grip on his long knife and stepped to the front of the group, shouting, "Everyone, stay close together! Don't scatter! If those wolves dare to come, I'll be the first to chop them down!" Fu Xingchen drew his long sword, his gaze fixed on the direction of the sound, calmly saying, "Don't panic, stay vigilant."
As the howls grew closer, a pack of wild wolves burst out from the woods. Their eyes were fierce, sharp fangs bared as they circled around the group, looking for an opportunity to attack. A larger alpha wolf let out a long howl, seemingly issuing a command. Upon receiving the signal, the pack immediately lunged toward the group.
Fu Xingchen was the first to charge into the fray, shouting, "Everyone, coordinate your attacks! Don't fight separately!" Mu Yunfan also utilized his agility, weaving through the wolves. Su Yizhi stood guard beside Lin Yu and the team members gathering herbs, preventing any wolves from getting too close.
Though Lin Yu felt fear in his heart, he forced himself to remain calm. Zhao Gang swung his iron rod, knocking back any wolves that approached. He shouted loudly, "Come on! Watch me beat you filthy beasts into submission!"
After a fierce battle, the wolf pack was finally driven back, with a few injured wolves retreating with their tails between their legs. The group let out a sigh of relief but felt utterly exhausted. Li Hu wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Those wolves were ruthless; we almost fell into their trap." Fu Xingchen looked at the injured team members and frowned. "Don't rest yet; we need to find a safe place to tend to everyone's wounds."
The group continued onward and found a cave in the mountains. They settled the injured members inside while Lin Yu took out some herbs he had brought along to treat their wounds. Mu Yunfan gazed outside the cave with an uneasy feeling. "The appearance of that wolf pack is suspicious; I can't shake the feeling that someone is manipulating things behind the scenes." Su Yizhi nodded in agreement. "Brother Mu's concerns are valid. The coincidences we've encountered on this journey suggest that someone is watching us."
As they discussed this, footsteps suddenly echoed from outside the cave. Fu Xingchen immediately signaled for silence and cautiously approached the entrance with his sword ready for any sudden developments. A figure cloaked in black slowly entered the cave, obscuring their face.
"Who are you?" Fu Xingchen demanded loudly, raising his sword slightly. The cloaked figure did not respond but stood silently. After a moment of tension, they finally spoke in a low and hoarse voice: "I am here to deliver a message."
Su Yizhi stepped forward and asked, "What message? You'd better be clear." The cloaked figure sneered softly. "Do you think you can change this chaotic world? You're too naive. The power of the mysterious organization is far greater than you can imagine; your every move is under their control."
Mu Yunfan angrily retorted, "What do you want to say? Speak plainly!" The cloaked figure paused before continuing: "The mysterious organization is plotting a much larger conspiracy that will plunge the entire world into irreparable ruin. If you want to stop them, meet outside the city at midnight three days from now at the dilapidated shack. Remember not to bring too many people; otherwise, you'll all die." With that said, the cloaked figure turned to leave.
"Wait!" Fu Xingchen called out. "Why are you telling us this? What is your purpose?" The figure halted and glanced back over their shoulder. "I simply cannot stand by and watch what the mysterious organization is doing; as for my purpose, you don't need to know. Whether you go or not is up to you." With that, they vanished into the darkness.
The group exchanged glances; after a moment of contemplation, Su Yizhi said, "Regardless of whether this is a trap or not, we have to check it out. This might be our chance to understand their conspiracy." Fu Xingchen nodded in agreement. "I concur with Brother Su's words, but we must remain cautious and plan carefully."
Mu Yunfan looked at the injured team members with concern. "But what about our injured teammates? What should we do?" Lin Yu replied, "I'll stay behind to take care of them. You all can go without worry. I'll find a safe place to hide until you return." Zhao Gang patted his chest and said, "I'll stay too, to protect Lin Brother and the injured brothers."
After some discussion, Su Yizhi, Fu Xingchen, and Mu Yunfan decided to go to the dilapidated hut outside the city as requested by the man in the black robe. They understood that this journey could be fraught with danger, but they had no reason to back down. Three days passed quickly, and as night fell, the three of them made their way toward the broken hut outside the city.
