Su Yizhi, Fu Xingchen, and Mu Yunfan returned to the cave, dragging their weary bodies. Lin Yu and Zhao Gang hurried to greet them. Seeing that the three were tired but unharmed, their anxious hearts finally eased. Lin Yu asked urgently, "Brother Su, how did it go? Did you meet the person the man in black mentioned? What’s the situation?"
Su Yizhi sat down, took a sip of water to catch his breath, and said, "Yes, we encountered those two again—Li Mingxiao and Leng Wuhen. They really came to stop us and used some strange martial arts. Fortunately, the three of us joined forces and managed to fend them off for now." Fu Xingchen frowned and pondered for a moment before saying, "Although we drove them back this time, the mysterious organization behind them will surely not let this go easily. We need to be more cautious moving forward."
Mu Yunfan nodded in agreement. "Exactly. The man in black mentioned that the mysterious organization is plotting a grand conspiracy. It seems we need to quicken our pace to uncover their plans and stop them." Zhao Gang scratched his head with a silly grin and said, "No matter what happens, I’m sticking with you all. If they come again, I’m not afraid!"
After resting for a night, the group decided to continue their journey. After several days of trekking, they arrived at a small town. The town was eerily quiet; few pedestrians walked the streets, and most shops were closed. Feeling puzzled, they found a teahouse that seemed to be open and prepared to inquire about the situation.
As soon as they entered the teahouse, they overheard several burly men in a corner discussing something in hushed tones. Su Yizhi and the others found a spot to sit down, ordered tea, and pretended to chat while straining to listen to the men's conversation. "Have you heard? Strange people have been appearing around here lately, lurking about at night without anyone knowing what they're up to," one scar-faced man said. Another thin man chimed in, "That's right! I even heard someone saw those people with strange markings on them—looks like some kind of organization."
Fu Xingchen exchanged glances with Lin Yu. Understanding each other’s intent, Lin Yu stood up and approached the table of men, cupping his hands in greeting. "Brothers, it seems you know something about these strange occurrences nearby. We are newcomers here and are quite curious about it; could you share what you know?" The burly men eyed Lin Yu warily. The scar-faced man asked, "Who are you? Why are you asking about this?"
Seeing this, Mu Yunfan also stood up and smiled as he said, "Please don’t misunderstand us; we are merely travelers who enjoy hearing tales of curiosity. If you could share some information with us, it would certainly add some fun to our journey." As he spoke, he pulled out a silver ingot and placed it on the table. Upon seeing the silver, the men’s expressions softened considerably.
The scar-faced man pocketed the silver and said, "In that case, I’ll tell you what I know. These strange people appeared about half a month ago. At first, only a few villagers spotted them sneaking in and out of the mountains at night. Then one brave villager decided to investigate further but went missing the next day and never returned. Everyone found it eerie and stopped going out at night."
Su Yizhi asked, "Did you manage to see any markings on those people?" The thin man replied, "I did catch a glimpse from afar once; it looked like a black bat shape—quite unsettling." Fu Xingchen and Su Yizhi exchanged glances again; they had an inkling that this was connected to the mysterious organization.
After bidding farewell to the men, the group returned to their lodging for discussion. Fu Xingchen said, "In my opinion, these people are likely minions of the mysterious organization. They’ve been active in these mountains; perhaps they’re plotting something sinister." Su Yizhi nodded in agreement: "Brother Fu is right; we need to investigate those mountains."
Mu Yunfan expressed concern: "But we know nothing about those mountains; rushing in could be dangerous." Zhao Gang thumped his chest confidently: "What’s there to fear! I grew up in the mountains; I know them like the back of my hand. With me around, you won’t have to worry about getting lost." Lin Yu added, "I can prepare some necessary supplies like insect repellent and ropes just in case." After discussing thoroughly, they decided to head into the mountains for exploration early the next morning.
At dawn the next day, before light broke fully, they packed their bags and set off. Arriving at the edge of the forest, Zhao Gang took point as he scouted ahead. The group remained vigilant along the way, alert for any sounds around them. Suddenly, Zhao Gang halted and gestured for everyone to be quiet. He lowered his voice and said, "It seems there’s some movement ahead." The group immediately tightened their grips on their weapons and cautiously moved forward.
Through the dense woods, they saw a group of people dressed in black busy around a massive stone platform, which was covered in strange symbols. The leader held a black token adorned with the image of a bat. Su Yizhi whispered, "It really is related to the mysterious organization. What are they up to?" Just then, a bird suddenly flew up from the tree and let out a cry. The black-clad individuals immediately became alert, shouting, "Who’s there? Come out!"
