Chapter 4
“Qin Wan, today is a new beginning.”
I picked up my phone and scrolled through various audition notices.
One message caught my attention—Director Gu Yan's new movie is casting for actors.
My heart raced.
Gu Yan, a director I could only admire from afar in my previous life, perhaps this time I could seize the opportunity.
I quickly organized my resume and portfolio and scheduled an audition for this afternoon.
The audition venue was even more crowded than I had imagined.
The waiting area was filled with young dreamers like me.
Some were quietly rehearsing their lines, others were discussing softly, while a few were nervously trembling their fingers.
“The competition is fierce.” I sat in a corner, feeling a wave of suffocation.
In my previous life, I never had the courage to audition for Gu Yan.
Back then, I was led by Shen Hao, only able to take on the small roles he arranged for me.
“No, this time is different.” I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms.
I closed my eyes and began to rehearse the prepared lines in my mind over and over again.
I had to perform perfectly, without a single mistake.
“Qin Wan, it’s your turn,” a staff member called my name.
I stood up, took a deep breath, and tried to calm my racing heart.
The audition room was simpler than I had imagined—just a few chairs, a camera, and several judges.
“Please begin,” one of the female judges gestured for me to start.
I nodded, closed my eyes, and allowed myself to fully immerse in the character.
When I opened my eyes again, I was no longer Qin Wan; I had become the strong yet fragile girl from the play.
I started my performance, forgetting my nerves and everything around me, focusing solely on the character itself.
At that moment, the door of the audition room swung open, and a man walked in.
My performance didn’t falter, but my heart skipped a beat.
Gu Yan.
He was even more handsome than I remembered, with a look of determination and wisdom in his eyes.
He quietly took a seat in the corner, watching my performance intently.
I forced myself not to think about his presence and continued to immerse myself in the character.
After the performance ended, I stood there, waiting for the judges' reaction.
"Very good." Gu Yan suddenly spoke, his voice deep and powerful. "What is your understanding of this character?"
I hadn't expected him to ask a direct question, and I was momentarily taken aback before organizing my thoughts.
"I believe she is a girl who appears strong but is actually fragile inside. She uses indifference to hide her scars, yet deep down, she longs to be understood and accepted."
As I expressed my understanding, my voice grew more resolute.
Gu Yan nodded, a glimmer of approval flashing in his eyes.
"Your performance was very natural, without any obvious traces of technique. That's rare."
He commented, "Have you played similar roles before?"
"No, but I can feel her pain and struggle," I replied, my heart pounding fiercely in my chest.
"Sometimes, genuine emotion is more important than technique."
Gu Yan stood up and walked towards me. "Your name is Qin Wan, right? I'll remember you. Keep up the good work."
His words sent a jolt through me.
In my previous life, I had never received such affirmation.
"Thank you," I said, striving to control my emotions, not allowing my excitement and joy to show too much.
Gu Yan smiled, "I appreciate your enthusiasm and talent.
Keep this up, and you'll go far."
His encouragement filled me with a warmth I hadn't felt in a long time.
It stood in stark contrast to Shen Hao's hypocrisy and Su Man's harshness.
"I will," I promised earnestly.
Leaving the audition room, my heart was still racing.
Gu Yan's affirmation meant so much to me.
This was not just a role; it was a new beginning.
I stood outside the building, looking up at the azure sky.
In this life, I would no longer be that small actor at the mercy of others.
I would work hard and step by step move toward success.
