Chapter 6
With the filming of the web drama coming to a close, I finally had some time to catch my breath.
The hard work during this period had rekindled my passion for the entertainment industry and earned me a bit of recognition within the circle.
However, just as I was preparing to continue striving for success, an undercurrent quietly swept in.
As I scrolled through my phone, I suddenly saw a trending topic about me: Qin Wan Unclean Background.
"What’s going on?" I muttered to myself, frowning as I clicked on the trending topic.
The comments below were overwhelmingly negative. Some claimed I had climbed to fame through underhanded means, others suggested that my family had a dark background, and there were even accusations of me being difficult and throwing my weight around on set...
I couldn't understand why such negative news had suddenly surfaced.
"It’s impossible... This can’t be happening!" I murmured, my fingers trembling as they swiped across the screen.
The more I read, the more it felt wrong; these comments seemed organized and premeditated.
Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm myself down.
"Who would do this? Why would they do this?" My mind raced as I attempted to identify the puppet master behind it all.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through my mind.
Could it be... Shen Hao and Su Man?
At that realization, I couldn’t help but clench my fists.
If it really was them, this blow could be more severe than I had imagined.
At that moment, my agent, Xiao Li, called.
"Sister Wan, have you seen the news online?" Xiao Li's voice was filled with urgency.
"I have," I forced myself to stay calm. "Xiao Li, can you find out where these rumors are coming from?"
"I'm looking into it," Xiao Li replied. "But these rumors seem to have appeared out of nowhere, making it hard to trace their source."
I fell silent for a moment. "Xiao Li, don't respond just yet. Let's observe the situation for a while."
After hanging up the phone, I sat on the sofa, feeling a wave of helplessness wash over me.
I knew that in this industry, reputation was everything.
If I couldn't clarify these rumors in time, the career I had painstakingly built could be destroyed in an instant.
"No way, I can't be knocked down like this!" I gritted my teeth and vowed silently.
I opened my computer and began organizing my schedule and work records from this period.
I needed to use facts to prove that these rumors were false.
"Shen Hao, Su Man, if it really is you two behind this," I stared at the computer screen, a glint of coldness flashing in my eyes, "then just wait and see!"
Just then, my phone rang again.
It was my current agent, Xiao Wang.
“Qin Wan, are you okay?” Xiao Wang's voice was filled with concern. “I’ve already contacted the PR team and prepared a statement to clarify…”
“Wait,” I interrupted him. “Don’t rush to issue a statement just yet.”
“But…” Xiao Wang hesitated.
“Trust me,” I said firmly. “Sometimes silence is more powerful than a rebuttal. Let them continue spreading rumors while we observe the situation.”
After hanging up the phone, I returned my focus to the work at hand.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through my mind.
“If this really is Shen Hao and Su Man pulling the strings behind the scenes, what could their motive be?” I frowned in contemplation. “Could it be because…”
I recalled that not long ago, there was a major film in production, and it was said that the female lead had not yet been decided.
Both Su Man and I were on the shortlist.
“Now it makes sense,” I scoffed softly. “They want to use such underhanded tactics to bring me down so that Su Man can smoothly secure the role.”
