The Stone Giant seemed enraged, letting out a deafening roar as it brought both fists crashing down. Lin Yu gritted his teeth, channeling all his energy into the light shield. The two forces collided, erupting in a dazzling burst of light.
At that moment, the Phantom Spirit Fox suddenly leaped onto Lin Yu's shoulder, emitting a clear, crisp cry. To everyone's surprise, the Stone Giant halted its movements upon hearing the sound. Its glowing eyes fixated on the Phantom Spirit Fox for a moment before it slowly retreated, disappearing deep into the forest.
Lin Yu let out a long breath as the light shield dissipated. He felt utterly drained, nearly losing his balance. Old Mo quickly supported him, saying, "Well done, kid. Not only did you block the Stone Giant's attack, but you've also gained the recognition of the Phantom Spirit Fox. That is extremely rare in the Phantom Realm."
Lin Yu managed a weak smile. "I just... didn't want to be turned into a pancake."
Old Mo laughed heartily. "A good survival instinct! But now, we really need to leave. That battle may have attracted more unwanted guests."
Just then, Lin Yu noticed the Phantom Spirit Fox gently nudging his cheek with its nose. He reached out to stroke its soft fur and suddenly felt a warm energy flowing into him, significantly alleviating his fatigue.
"It's replenishing your energy," Old Mo explained. "The Phantom Spirit Fox is one of the purest energy entities in the Phantom Realm. Gaining its recognition means you possess a similar pure energy within you."
Hearing Old Mo's words, Lin Yu smiled gratefully at the Phantom Spirit Fox and then looked thoughtfully at the mark on his wrist. "What is all this about? Why was I chosen? This mark..."
"The answers to those questions," Old Mo interrupted, "you will need to seek for yourself. All I can do is guide you along the right path. Now, let's move on. The real adventure has just begun."
With that, Lin Yu refrained from asking further questions and followed Old Mo deeper into the forest, while the Phantom Spirit Fox quietly rested on his shoulder, likely sensing any potential dangers around them.
As time passed, Lin Yu found his awareness of the surrounding environment becoming increasingly acute. The flowing energy in the air, subtle vibrations in the ground, and even the rustling leaves in the distance all clearly registered in his perception.
"This is the influence of Illusion Domain Energy," Old Mo explained. "As your mastery over energy deepens, your senses will gradually surpass ordinary limits."
Lin Yu nodded; he noticed that although Old Mo's pace appeared slow, he skillfully avoided obstacles on the ground. Even more astonishing was how Old Mo's figure sometimes became clear and sometimes blurred, as if blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
"Old Mo, how do you do that..." Lin Yu began to ask but was halted by Old Mo raising a hand.
"Shh," Old Mo signaled for silence. "We've arrived."
Lin Yu then realized they had unknowingly reached an open area. Before them stood an ancient stone structure that resembled an abandoned temple. Vines crawled over its surface, and strange symbols were etched into its stone walls, faintly glowing in the dim light.
"This is..." Lin Yu stared in astonishment at the building.
"An ancient ruin," Old Mo said. "It will be our shelter for tonight. It is protected by powerful barriers that prevent ordinary Phantom Domain Creatures from approaching."
Upon entering the temple, Lin Yu discovered that it was much more spacious than he had imagined. In the center of the hall stood a massive stone tablet covered in intricate runes. Surrounding it was a large circular magic array drawn on the ground, with faint golden light flowing through its lines.
"Sit down," Old Mo pointed to the center of the array. "It's time to teach you some real techniques."
Following his instruction, Lin Yu sat cross-legged while the Phantom Spirit Fox jumped onto his lap and curled up comfortably. Old Mo stood before him and gently tapped his Wooden Staff on the ground: "Close your eyes and feel the flow of energy within you."
Lin Yu complied and soon felt warmth radiating from the mark on his wrist. That familiar warm current reappeared, coursing through his meridians throughout his body.
"Very good," Old Mo's voice seemed to come from afar. "Now try to guide that energy to your fingertips."
Lin Yu focused his mind, imagining energy flowing towards his fingertips like water. At first, it was difficult; the energy seemed to have a will of its own, reluctant to obey his commands. Gradually, however, he found the trick, guiding the energy gently towards his fingertips as if directing a stream through a pipe.
"Open your eyes," Old Mo said.
Lin Yu opened his eyes and was surprised to find that a faint golden light was emanating from his fingertips. He tried drawing a circle in the air, and the golden light left a trace that slowly dissipated after a few seconds.
"This is the most basic form of energy projection," Old Mo explained. "Next, I will teach you how to shape the energy."
Just then, Phantom Spirit Fox suddenly perked up, emitting a low warning growl. Old Mo's expression turned serious in an instant. "Someone's coming."
Lin Yu immediately stood up, looking warily towards the entrance of the temple. In the distance, he could hear faint footsteps and the crisp sound of metal clashing.
"It's the Hunters," Old Mo whispered. "A group that specializes in tracking newcomers. It seems your energy fluctuations have caught their attention."
The footsteps grew closer, and Lin Yu could hear voices whispering:
"The energy fluctuations are coming from this direction."
"Be careful; there might be guardians."
"What are we afraid of? There are three of us, and we have Forbidden Energy Chains."
Old Mo quickly pulled Lin Yu behind a stone tablet. "Listen to me; the most dangerous thing about the Hunters isn't their strength but the Forbidden Energy Devices they carry. Once you're ensnared by the Forbidden Energy Chains, your energy will be sealed."
Lin Yu nodded nervously. "What do we do?"
"You stay here," Old Mo said. "I'll draw them away. Remember, no matter what happens, don't come out unless..."
Before he could finish his sentence, three figures appeared at the entrance of the temple. They were all dressed in black cloaks and wore metallic masks. The most striking feature was the weapon in their hands—a chain shimmering with an eerie purple light.
Old Mo took a deep breath and suddenly dashed out from their hiding place. His figure left a blur in the air as he appeared before the Hunters in an instant.
"Who goes there?" the leader of the Hunters barked.
Old Mo did not answer but raised his Wooden Staff, and a dazzling white light shot from its tip. The Hunters hurriedly dodged, but one of them was hit and flew back, crashing into the wall.
"It's a guardian!" another Hunter shouted. "Activate Forbidden Energy Domain!"
The three of them simultaneously threw their chains into the air, which intertwined to form a net radiating purple light. Lin Yu felt his internal energy suddenly become sluggish, as if something was suppressing it.
