Upon returning home, it had been about a month and a half since I went to Yi Ren Zhi Xia, but only a little over ten days had passed here.
At home, there was a substitute for Li Yunqing. Although I had been dismissed from my job, Li Yunqing had left someone to look after the house. Their daily task was to keep everything clean and tidy. So, when Li Yunqing and the others returned, the house was still spotless.
However, there were many missed calls on the phone left at home. My mom, Ling, had called four times; the timing was close together, so she must have been checking on how I was doing recently. Since I hadn’t answered, she called a few more times. There were also calls from Shen Xin in my group chat, but I wasn’t sure what she wanted.
Looking at the timestamps, those calls were from just two days ago. After chatting with Sera and the others for a bit, I picked up my phone and went out to the balcony to call.
“Hey, Shen Xin, what’s up?”
It was just past eight in the morning on a Sunday. Although Shen Xin had gotten up, she still sounded a bit groggy. When she answered the phone and heard my voice, she pouted and said, “Where have you been? I called you a couple of days ago; why didn’t you answer?”
I rubbed my nose sheepishly. “I went out to have some fun; I didn’t bring my phone with me.”
“Went out to have fun without your phone? For two days?” Shen Xin sounded confused. “Who goes out without their phone these days?”
“Anyway,” I said, “did you call for something specific?”
“Nope,” she replied. “I just missed you. Since it’s the weekend, I thought we could hang out together, but then you didn’t answer.”
It made sense; she had called on Friday and probably wanted to see me over the weekend.
“Oh, I see,” I said. “But now the weekend’s gone; I guess we’ll have to plan for next time?”
“Next time it is! But can you please answer your phone next time? If you don’t pick up, I’ll think something happened to you!”
After a brief conversation, they hung up the phone. Li Yunqing smiled and turned to see several girls gathered around, curious about his call.
"Who was he talking to? Was it a girl?"
"Could it be another sister?"
"Not like us, right?"
Hearing their whispers, Li Yunqing scratched his head. To be honest, his feelings towards Sera and the other girls were quite different from those he had for Shen Xin and her friends. With one group, there was a sense of surrealism, while with the other, everything felt completely real. One group was easy to accept, while the other required more time to adjust to.
"Well, I've known them longer than I have known you," he said. The girls nodded in understanding. "So that makes her an older sister."
Li Yunqing chuckled but didn’t elaborate further. He casually chatted with the girls before settling down on the sofa to check his phone for news.
"Relaxing marriage restrictions? What does that mean?"
After scrolling through various articles, only one legal news piece caught his interest. "Isn't this just opening doors for the wealthy?" He shook his head and closed the article, glancing at the chat group where he noticed Shen Xin and the others had previously discussed this new policy.
