In close combat, the only outcome can be death. Relying on these Metal Plants, there was no way to break through Hesperian's defenses. There was no option to advance, retreat, or defend without incurring heavy losses. Both paths were equally perilous. Clearly, he had fallen into a desperate situation.
There were still two hours left. Soon, he would be trapped with no escape. He felt like a frog slowly boiling in water; if he couldn't jump out before it reached a boil, death awaited him.
The battle continued on both sides, appearing evenly matched. In fact, Ye Feihong seemed to hold the upper hand. However, he was overwhelmed by the ambushes from several Hero Units. The Zerg Queen Kerrigan was busy fending off attacks—first blocking the Dwarf Sniper's Assassination Skill, then countering the Moon Goddess's Moon God Arrow. Occasionally, she had to defend against the Dwarf King's Thunder Hammer and the Shadow of the Watcher's surprise attacks.
Ye Feihong employed various tactics, including unleashing his fully charged Moon God Arrow, yet he could not breach the Zerg Queen Kerrigan's defenses. As long as he couldn't penetrate her defenses, Hesperian could simply tilt their firepower against him.
The current battle situation was increasingly unfavorable for Ye Feihong. Hesperian's attacks seemed not to harm him or his Metal Plant Battleships directly, but each hit cost him a significant amount of Energy Stones. At this rate, Ye Feihong would surely run out of resources.
Gritting his teeth, Ye Feihong prepared to fight with all his might.
He used Mental Power to connect with all his Hero Units. Together, they charged toward Hesperian. Since ranged attacks couldn't harm the enemy, they would engage in close combat instead. Fortunately, all of his subordinates' ultimate abilities had cooled down.
At that moment, Ye Feihong felt he had made a mistake in choosing his Hero Units. The only truly powerful melee fighter was the Dwarf King. The Watcher was only half as effective. The Moon Priestess, who was stronger against ordinary dark creatures, and the Dwarf Sniper were quite weak in battle among the Hero Units. Their fragile defenses could easily be cut down. This was something Ye Feihong had never considered before; he had previously thought that simply holding the Heaven Gate would suffice.
Now, the battle had shifted from city defense to a clash between heroes. He hadn't anticipated that he could become this strong in such a short time. As they approached for melee combat, Zerg Queen Kerrigan suddenly accelerated. The queen charged forward, swiftly bypassing the Dwarf King and grabbing hold of the Dwarf Sniper behind him.
Ye Feihong's highest-level Hero Unit was pierced through the chest by a bone spear. General Reynor unleashed a terrifying grenade attack that instantly killed the Dwarf Sniper. At that moment, General Reynor laughed heartily. "I've finally leveled up to a hundred! I owe it all to you, little guy. I was never a Hero Unit; I needed to kill a large number of high-level Hero Units to become one."
General Reynor moved, his legs leaving their original position. It was then that Ye Feihong realized through Mental Power what was happening.
It turned out that General Reynor's legs were once fused with the Hesperian. No wonder the energy detection device could only identify a single energy target. The Hesperian was indeed General Reynor. General Reynor was just an ordinary human warrior. Although he was a general of humanity, his fragile human body limited him to being an average unit.
However, his lover, Zerg Queen Kerrigan, did not abandon General Reynor. She often inflicted wounds on other Hero Units, allowing General Reynor to grow stronger and stronger. Yet, the frail human body of General Reynor could not withstand such immense energy. Thus, he merged with his flagship, the Hesperian, becoming a Half-Hero Unit.
If he could hunt down some more Hero Units, he would reach level one hundred and become a true Hero Unit, freeing himself from the constraints of the Hesperian. This was also why Zerg Queen Kerrigan actively provided them with experience—everything was for General Reynor to become a genuine Hero Unit and achieve level one hundred.
This revelation struck Ye Feihong like a flash of light in his mind. He finally understood why he had absorbed so much Sunlight Energy. Despite his attribute points increasing daily, he could not reach level one hundred. Like General Reynor, he was merely a mortal seeking to become a level one hundred Hero Unit. To achieve that, he would have to hunt other Hero Units to reach level one hundred and become a true hero.
