Evil King Azmodan was awakened by his subordinates. This infuriated him; how dare someone disturb his slumber? Recently, with no wars breaking out, he had often found himself in deep sleep, occupying a prime piece of territory in Hell. He possessed magnificent fortresses and countless purebred demons.
At this moment, there was only one thing he truly desired: to enhance his personal power. He hoped to surpass Diablo and the Destruction King, seizing the Tree of Life from their grasp. For someone like Evil King Azmodan, who thrived on war, this silent planet had become tiresome. He longed to lead the Demon Army in attacks against other dimensions.
The two Trees of Life were firmly held by Diablo and the Destruction King. Despite ruling the most prosperous territory in Hell, Evil King Azmodan was no match for these two formidable foes. He could not simply follow them around like a shadow, plundering other worlds only to offer up the spoils to them. Thus, he chose to sleep instead.
Evil King Azmodan's slumber was unlike that of humans. While humans slept to rest, his sleep was a means to concentrate and gather the power within him, refining his malevolence into something even more potent.
Upon reaching their level of power, both physical and magical abilities had essentially hit their limits. To increase their strength, they could only rely on powerful artifacts or a more precise control over their abilities. The Evil King Azmodan chose the latter.
Several General Demons stood at the entrance of the Underground Chamber, hesitant to enter. They forced a few lesser demons to push open the door and awaken the Evil King Azmodan. These generals understood well that Azmodan had a notorious temper upon waking. Often, he would devour the demon who brought him news, and then proceed to feast on others in his dreams.
This was also why, during his slumber, Azmodan was at his most vulnerable. He had activated his defensive mechanisms, which would automatically attack any living being that entered the Underground Chamber—be they foes or his own subordinates. The lives of his minions were far less significant than even a single hair on Azmodan's body.
The General Demons were well aware of Azmodan's habits. Therefore, unless absolutely necessary, they would not disturb his rest. However, with the situation becoming increasingly dire, these General Demons collectively decided to take action, leading a group of unsuspecting lesser demons into the chamber.
"Let them go in first to meet their demise," he thought, waiting for Evil King Azmodan to fully awaken from his slumber. They were about to emerge. As for the lives of the lesser demons, not a single General Demon would care.
Watching the lesser demons enter the Underground Chamber, several General Demons quickly left the area. The awakening of Evil King Azmodan was known to be terrifying.
Inside the Underground Chamber, a tremendous roar echoed, accompanied by the pleas for mercy from numerous lesser demons. After a minute passed, silence returned to the Underground Chamber. A few more minutes went by before Evil King Azmodan finally rose from his deep sleep.
With a voice devoid of energy, he bellowed, "You may enter." His formidable Mental Power detected several Demon Generals hiding in the distance. The presence of so many Demon Generals together could only mean something significant was afoot.
At that moment, the General Demons hurriedly entered the Underground Chamber. "Master, a powerful Human Army is attacking our Fortress, and we are on the verge of being unable to hold them off," one reported. Evil King Azmodan doubted whether he was truly awake yet.
