As night fell, the wind and snow showed no signs of letting up. The supermarket was dim and silent, interrupted only by the occasional sound of the wind and the snowflakes tapping against the glass. Li Chen leaned against the wall, gripping his handgun tightly, his eyes scanning the surroundings with vigilance. Lin Yao sat beside an elderly man, softly comforting him. 0

“Do you think we can find that shelter?” Lin Yao's voice rang clear in the darkness. 0

Li Chen was silent for a moment before he replied quietly, “I don’t know, but I have to believe it exists. It’s our only hope.” 0

Lin Yao nodded, a glimmer of determination flashing in her eyes. “I believe in you, Li Chen.” 0

Just then, a strange sound came from outside. It resembled footsteps but also had the low growl of some animal. Li Chen immediately tensed up, standing up and signaling for Lin Yao and the old man to stay quiet. 0

“What is it?” Lin Yao whispered, her voice tinged with anxiety. 0

“I don’t know, but it can’t be good,” Li Chen said as he slowly approached the door, peering through the glass. Outside was pitch black; the wind and snow blurred his vision, but he could sense something was drawing closer. 0

“Be careful!” Lin Yao suddenly shouted. Li Chen whipped around just in time to see a shadow rushing out of the darkness toward them. 0

Li Chen reacted quickly, raising his handgun, but the shadow moved too fast. He heard a low growl followed by a tremendous force that knocked him to the ground. Pain shot through him as his gun flew from his grasp. 0

“Li Chen!” Lin Yao cried out in alarm, trying to rush forward but was yanked back by Zhao Ming. 0

“Don’t go over there! Be careful!” Zhao Ming’s voice trembled slightly, yet his gaze remained resolute. 0

Struggling to get back on his feet, Li Chen caught a glimpse of the shadow in the faint moonlight—it was a massive wolf, its fur matted with ice and snow, its eyes filled with ferocity. Clearly, this wolf had been driven mad by hunger. 0

“Run!” Li Chen shouted. He knew he couldn’t fight this beast; their only chance was to escape quickly. 0

Lin Yao and Zhao Ming immediately backed away while Li Chen positioned himself in front of them, attempting to fend off the wolf’s attack. The wolf lunged again with ferocious intensity; Li Chen barely managed to dodge its strike. 0

“Go!” Li Chen yelled again as he grabbed a wooden plank and swung it at the wolf's head. The wolf yelped in anger but didn’t retreat; instead, it became even more frenzied. 0

At that moment, Lin Yao suddenly remembered something. She rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a lighter, quickly igniting a piece of paper. The flame flickered in the darkness, startling the wolf as it paused to watch the fire warily. 0

“Quick! Use fire to scare it away!” Lin Yao shouted. 0

Li Chen reacted instantly; he seized the flaming paper and hurled it at the wolf. The creature yelped in terror and turned to flee into the shadows. 0

“Let’s go!” Li Chen shouted as he grabbed Lin Yao and Zhao Ming, urging them to leave the supermarket swiftly. 0

The wind and snow outside were even stronger now, but they had no time to linger. Li Chen knew that the wolf might return; they needed to find a safer place quickly. 0

“We need to pick up the pace,” Li Chen panted heavily. “The shelter is just ahead; we can’t give up.” 0

Lin Yao nodded firmly, determination shining in her eyes. “We will find it.” 0
