The smoke alarm blared, and Xu Lie quickly took her hand, leading her to safety. Along the way, they encountered staff members helping with the evacuation. Lu Youyou's voice rose in pitch as she shouted the answer to the problem: evacuation! The earlier arson was meant to facilitate everyone’s escape.
The two of them, who had been whispering, suddenly drew everyone's attention with Lu Youyou's high-pitched exclamation. "Is that Lu Youyou with Ah Lie? They seem close!"
"Shh, don’t say that. Yuanliang is still here."
What was going on? When they had just exited the Gene Building, they were holding hands.
Oh no. Lu Youyou realized her mistake and glanced around anxiously, feeling the urge to punch Xu Lie a few times out of frustration. What a misunderstanding!
Fortunately, their homeroom teacher seemed reassured, thinking that Lu Youyou was merely concerned for others. When the fire alarm first rang, the building staff had already begun evacuating people.
Lu Youyou didn’t worry too much about her studies. She hurriedly followed her teacher's lead, nodding her head repeatedly like a chick pecking at grains.
Finally escaping the awkward atmosphere, Lu Youyou, despite her earlier outburst, leaned in to Xu Lie and said softly, "I’m sorry for what I said before; it was a bit too much."
The young girl, still innocent and kind-hearted, felt guilty upon learning that Xu Lie had triggered the fire alarm to ensure an early evacuation. She thought her earlier accusation of him being a murderer was too harsh.
As she apologized, Lu Youyou carefully considered Xu Lie’s actions; even in revenge, he didn’t wish to harm anyone. That made him quite pitiable.
Xu Lie chuckled softly, genuinely finding it amusing that this Second Female Lead seemed a bit off in her thinking. Even if he hadn’t killed anyone, he had orchestrated a real act of terror.
Lu Youyou had no reason to apologize for her previous accusations.
Her laughter immediately drew a glare from Lu Youyou. "What are you laughing at? What’s so funny about my sincere apology?"
Xu Lie wasn’t going to indulge her: "You were arrogant before and now you’re humble; it’s quite amusing."
Lu Youyou gritted her teeth in frustration. How was she being arrogant? She was clearly acknowledging her mistake! "And you? Weren’t you crying earlier and asking me to protect you?"
"That was just from the smoke," Xu Lie replied honestly.
It is evident that sometimes, the truth is not believed.
Lu Youyou's expression immediately turned smug. "Lying? Forget it, I'll let it go this time. A person of your stature should have a generous heart and not hold grudges."
"After all, if you stop here, I might consider helping you keep your secret. You would have avenged yourself and wouldn’t need to continue down a dark path."
Deep down, Lu Youyou was kind-hearted and knew that continuing this conversation would lead to discussing Xu Lie's deceased sister, which would only touch on Xu Lie's sadness. So she decided to drop the subject.
Anyway, she had won the argument, and Lu Youyou thought happily about that. Little did she know, their cheerful banter was making those around them increasingly uneasy.
"Haha, no! I'm laughing so hard it hurts my stomach. Female Second Lead, you really need to be more careful! The Xu Lie fans are already full from watching!"
"What about the Male Lead? Is the photographer really that clueless? The Male Second Lead and Female Second Lead are having such a good time; shouldn’t we get a close-up of the Male Lead’s expression right now?"
"This is hilarious! I thought this was going to be one of those painful love triangles typical of youth dramas. Why are the Male Second Lead and Female Second Lead having so much fun?"
"Oh, Youyou, my naive Youyou! With a personality like the Male Second Lead's, how could you persuade him with just a few words? He’s out for revenge against the Marriage Law; just blowing up one Gene Building isn’t enough."
