The argument between the Hawk Faction and the Dove Faction was heated, causing several individuals to pause their disputes. They were representatives nurtured by the Four Major Grain Merchants, firmly standing on the side of their financial backers. How could they possibly entertain such a notion? Did the Centrists think they were fools?
Were they attempting to push through a bill that would harm their sponsors' interests while they were preoccupied with the Hawk Faction? Dream on! If the Centrists could exploit the conflict between the Hawks and Doves, why couldn’t they do the same?
One of them retorted, "We are currently discussing the most crucial decisions regarding human survival; everything else can be addressed later." They intended to stall, dragging out this period until the Four Major Grain Merchants had profited from the Federal funds, at which point the Centrists would no longer bother with this matter.
The Centrists, feeling dismissed, became irate. Did they really think they could be treated like clay? They immediately entered into a dispute: "We believe that what the Hawk Faction is saying makes a lot of sense."
This infuriated the Dove Faction. What did that mean? Were they trying to take advantage of the situation? Were they even human? Did they have any conscience left?
A member of the Centrists who had been dismissed by the Dove Faction spoke again: "Please do not act out of emotion; this concerns decisions about all of humanity's survival! We cannot afford to be reckless!"
The Centrists laughed heartily, showing no signs of restraint: "How are we being reckless? We genuinely believe that what the Hawk Faction is saying is quite right."
Damn it! Behind them were members of the Four Major Grain Merchants and the Dove Faction, who felt frustrated by these fence-sitters and exchanged glances filled with disdain. But no matter what, he would not harm the interests of the Four Major Grain Merchants.
Faced with the penetrating gazes of the Centrists, members of the Dove Faction either expressed disdain or hinted with their eyes. Even within the Centrist faction, divisions emerged, signaling that discussions about the Four Major Grain Merchants should cease. Thus, they smoothly returned to the critical decision-making regarding Fack and Xie Teqi, determined to resolve whether it would be war or compromise.
The audience was left dumbfounded.
"Isn't it typical? Even now, food prices are skyrocketing? And no one seems to care? My heart aches for the residents out there."
"Well, it's foreign affairs; that's just how it is. After all, they value freedom, so whether humanity faces a crisis or not, price hikes are part of that freedom."
