The place is known for its howling winds year-round, which is how it got its name. A shadowy figure cloaked in black glided through the canyon's forest.
Quickly, the figure's expression changed as he turned to the left, already gathering a sphere of pitch-black flames in his hand. To his left, it seemed that someone had noticed the dark fire and felt reassured. An elderly man, wrapped in a Bai She, emerged from the shadows. "Don't misunderstand," he said.
Every time the Truth School summoned, the Old Man would hide in Konglan Gorge. Speaking of this, the elder's teeth clenched in frustration; he was genuinely angry. This area of Mountain Province had originally been his private domain.
Every time he researched Dark Magic, he would casually send out Demonic Pets to capture a few people for materials, enjoying his solitary study of magical mysteries. However, for some unknown reason, that group of Common Mages had banded together. Not only did they hold meetings for the Mage Zhanliu Association, but they also established a school!
From all corners of the world, they came to recruit students. The old man had been unaware at first; two years ago, when he encountered Feizhou, he was discovered by over ten summoned teachers and was beaten up by the forces of justice. If it weren't for a Magic Tool that allowed him to escape, he might not have made it out alive.
Now, every time the day of the Truth School's summoning approached, he could only hide in this gorge like a frightened rat, afraid to show his face.
The cloaked figure looked deeply at the old man, particularly noting the Bai She coiling from his waist up to his neck. After confirming this detail, he asked meaningfully, "Your Excellency, shall we cooperate?"
The old man silently took two steps back, creating a bit of distance. "If you only wish to hide from the Truth School, we can share this Konglan Gorge. This place is vast enough for both of us. However, if you seek anything else, I won't be very welcoming."
Though he spoke these words aloud, inwardly the old man began to scoff. Cooperation? Evil Mages discussing collaboration? It was laughable.
For decades now, the All Continent's Mage Zhanliu Association had flourished; why hadn't Evil Mages formed a similar Xanliu Association to share resources? It was simply because Evil Mages were fundamentally madmen exploring the path of magic.
If two Evil Mages teamed up, one could never know when they might turn on each other—perhaps one would end up decapitating the other for some horrific experiment. After all, ordinary mortals were abundant and easy to find as experimental subjects.
Slightly precious Mage Materials can be found if one knows how to hunt for them. What is the most valuable experimental material? Indeed, it is the Evil Mage itself.
Even though they are both experts in researching Dark Magic, their directions may differ, yet they ultimately share a common goal. Hunting an Evil Mage is truly rewarding for the Evil Mage themselves!
Only Xu Lie has encountered a few Evil Mages who once attempted to attack the Mage Zhanliu Association, as well as Mai Zhe Mai Cha, whom he met by chance during his first summoning—these are exceptions.
For the most part, Evil Mages tend to operate alone. Therefore, when the elder heard the cloaked figure inquire about a potential partnership, he couldn't be bothered to listen any further. Whether it was a collaboration against the Truth School or something else entirely, the elder would never grant such an opportunity.
The cloaked figure had anticipated this reaction; after all, no one understands their own kind better than an Evil Mage understands another Evil Mage. The truth is, I am not here to hide from the Truth School; I specifically came to find Old Xian.
We also know that no Evil Mage would ever trust another. Fortunately, we stumbled upon the Oath of the Covenant by chance, and through this medium, we successfully restored Covenant Magic.
