"Viruses are tougher than ex-boyfriends!" Lin Yuan nearly burst out laughing when he heard Su Jiu'er wailing over the communicator. This girl must have mistaken the firewall in the Server Terminal for her virus ex-boyfriend, he thought. Meanwhile, he was deep in thought over the code on the Server Terminal, which was even more cryptic than Su Jiu'er’s virus—like a mix of Oracle Bone Script and cuneiform, leaving him dizzy.
"The system is about to crash! 5, 4, 3..." The terminal's warning became increasingly urgent, with the red alarm light flashing like a frantic disco beat. Lin Yuan was in a panic; if the system crashed and the experimental data was lost, all his efforts would be in vain. He felt like an ant on a hot stove, running around in circles. Suddenly, he remembered his Golden Finger—Time Manipulator. He rarely used it, but it could come in handy at a critical moment.
"Wait, I can reverse time!" Lin Yuan exclaimed, slapping his thigh in excitement. "How could I forget about this! This Golden Finger is quite reliable when it counts!"
He immediately activated the Time Manipulator, inputting commands to rewind time to before Su Jiu'er attempted to crack the Server Terminal. A flash of blue light enveloped him as the world seemed to rewind; the warnings vanished and the alarm lights stopped flashing.
"Huh? What just happened? It feels like I’ve gone back in time?" Su Jiu'er looked bewildered at the screen displaying the code again, questioning whether she was hallucinating. She rubbed her eyes and pinched her thigh to confirm she wasn't dreaming.
"Stop dawdling and get cracking!" Lin Yuan urged through the communicator. "Be careful this time; don’t provoke that virus ex-boyfriend again! If you crash the system again, I won’t have time to rewind for you!"
This time, Su Jiu'er learned her lesson and operated cautiously, her fingers dancing across the keyboard as lines of code flowed like a waterfall. She focused intently, not daring to slack off, and finally succeeded in cracking the encryption of the Server Terminal. The screen displayed a video of Nan Gong Xuan conducting an experiment to connect parallel worlds. In the video, Nan Gong Xuan stood before a massive device in a white lab coat, her expression intense and fervent.
"Wow, Nan Gong Xuan is really playing with fire!" Lin Yuan gasped as he watched the strange glowing Lingqi Channel Device in the video. "If that thing gets activated, who knows what terrible things might happen!" Su Jiu'er tensed up as well. "We have to stop her! This is no joke!"
"Let’s head to the Core Area!" A determined glint flashed in Lin Yuan's eyes. "It’s time for a showdown with Nan Gong Xuan! I want to see what she’s really up to!"
Using the data he obtained, Lin Yuan successfully bypassed the AI Monitoring System surrounding the lab and disabled the first layer of laser defenses with surprising ease—like using a master key to unlock his own front door. He even had time to hum a little tune.
"This is way too easy! Nan Gong Xuan's security measures are laughably inadequate!" Lin Yuan complained while keeping a wary eye on his surroundings; something felt off. "It’s like a trap waiting for me to jump into it!"
Sure enough, as soon as he entered the Core Area, he encountered defense robots controlled by AI. These robots came in various shapes—some looked like spiders, others like scorpions, and some resembled… old Wang's vacuum cleaner—but all were equipped with powerful weaponry and agile combat skills. Laser beams, electromagnetic cannons, and small missiles came at him in rapid succession, leaving Lin Yuan overwhelmed.
"Wow, the technology in this lab is off the charts! It's even more advanced than Old Wang's toilet! What exactly is this Nan Gong Xuan?" Lin Yuan exclaimed while dodging the laser beams from the robots. He activated his Guan Qi Abilities, accurately sensing the movement trajectories and energy fluctuations of the defensive robots, using the terrain and obstacles to evade their attacks. He ducked behind pillars, leaped onto tables, and rolled away, moving as nimbly as a monkey, prompting Su Jiu'er in the monitoring room to exclaim, "Impressive!"
"This Lin Yuan really has some skills! He's quite agile!" Su Jiu'er said while controlling the lab's AI Monitoring System to provide support for Lin Yuan. "To your left! There's another one! Be careful!"
In the midst of his fierce battle with the defensive robots, Lin Yuan triggered the lab's second line of defense—the High-Energy Electromagnetic Pulse. Suddenly, the lab was filled with blue electric light, crackling with energy, and a burnt smell permeated the air as if Lin Yuan were about to be turned into barbecue.
"Wow, this thing is more powerful than a microwave! Is it trying to turn me into a roast pig?" Lin Yuan thought to himself, quickly activating his Time Manipulator. He input commands to briefly halt the flow of time, avoiding the deadly High-Energy Electromagnetic Pulse. The world seemed to freeze; blue electric light hung suspended in midair, and the robots' movements were halted.
Seizing this moment, Lin Yuan destroyed several of the defensive robots. With powerful Lingqi concentrated in his fists, he smashed them into scrap metal. Then he activated the Time Manipulator again, resuming the flow of time.
After overcoming numerous obstacles, Lin Yuan finally reached the Core Area of the lab. A massive Lingqi Channel Device appeared before him, glowing with dazzling light like a gateway to another world. The device was surrounded by intricate circuits and instruments that hummed with operation.
Nan Gong Xuan's voice came through remote communication: "Lin Yuan, you finally made it! I've been waiting for you!"
Her tone carried a hint of mockery, as if everything was under her control.
"Nan Gong Xuan, what do you want?" Lin Yuan asked coldly. "Why are you connecting to parallel worlds?"
"Hehe, you'll find out soon enough!" Nan Gong Xuan replied with a mysterious smile. "Are you ready to embrace a new world?"
The glow of the Lingqi Channel Device intensified, as if it were about to activate at any moment.
Lin Yuan felt a sinking sensation in his heart; he knew that an even greater challenge was on the horizon…
