The Old Lady was quite insistent on having something different brought over, especially for Ma Zhi, her favorite. Yu Songyu felt that she had completed her task.
Looking at the pile of items on the ground, the Old Lady felt a twinge of reluctance. She really wanted to take everything home with her, but since it was their first interaction, she feared the girl might laugh at her and decided against it. Instead, she only picked out a few of her favorites.

As she spoke, the Old Lady pulled out a small cloth bag from her pocket and stuffed it into Yu Songyu's hands before striding out the door.
Yu Songyu was not polite with her, as she truly feared that if she were courteous, the girl might lose her balance and fall over. After the Old Lady left, Yu Songyu opened the item that had been handed to her. It felt hard to the touch, wrapped in a handkerchief.
When the handkerchief was unfolded, both Yu Songyu and Li Xiuzhen were taken aback. Inside the handkerchief lay a gleaming gold bar.
"Wow, this is incredible! A big chunk of gold for just a few bags of snacks? She must be from a wealthy family to be so extravagant!" Yu Songyu exclaimed, quickly wrapping the gold bar back up and stuffing it into her pocket.
"Xiao Yu, this used to be quite valuable, but with the current situation outside, keeping something like this could bring you trouble!" Li Xiuzhen warned kindly. "In this era, gold isn't as practical as food."
"I know, Li Xiuzhen. You don’t need to worry. I just have a hobby of collecting these things and old artifacts!" Yu Songyu thought to herself that she couldn't exactly say she could exchange these items for money in modern times.
Wait a minute? What? Yu Songyu felt as though she had missed some crucial information. She recalled what she had just said about old artifacts.
Right, she was in this era now; there weren't many counterfeit items around yet. Although many good things had been destroyed during the campaign to "Destroy the Four Olds and Establish the Four News," it was certain that many families had secretly hidden away their treasures.
In this era of scarcity, if she could trade food or other supplies for these items, she might be able to get quite a few good things in return. Just like Li Xiuzhen said, in this time, these items were not as practical as food.
