Several days had passed, and it seemed that Hong Xia and his family had already moved away. Yu Songyu, concerned about opening her shop, decided to take a look around town.
The Landlady was delighted to see Yu Songyu. This girl was genuine, graceful, and generous, and most importantly, she could bring her all sorts of good things. Yu Songyu was not stingy either; when she visited, she brought along roast chicken, duck, and various snacks, all taken from her space.
"You child, you could just come by without bringing anything," the Old Lady said. Although her words suggested otherwise, her eyes were glued to the bag in Yu Songyu's hand.
"Auntie, I just got some new treats! I brought them for you to try!" Yu Songyu said sweetly, making the Old Lady very happy while not mentioning anything about the shop.
"My surname is Wu; just call me Grandma Wu from now on. You little girl are quite clever. You came back to ask about that matter last time, didn't you?" The Old Lady was no fool; having weathered many storms, she could see right through Yu Songyu.
"Yes, yes, Grandma Wu! I can't hide anything from you. But I really brought these treats for you to enjoy!" Yu Songyu supported the Old Lady as they entered the house and placed the items on the kang.
As the saying goes, familiarity breeds comfort. She didn’t wait for the Old Lady to invite her onto the kang; she comfortably sat down herself.
Grandma Wu really liked Yu Songyu's personality; being so open and generous was wonderful. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have risked her old face to plead with others for Yu Songyu.
"Now that the Supply and Marketing Cooperative is collectively owned, I’ve relied on my contributions during the revolutionary years to muster up some courage to come here and ask for help!"
At this point, Grandma Wu deliberately paused for effect.
"Oh dear, Grandma Wu! You’ve really gone through a lot for me!" Regardless of whether this matter would succeed or not, Yu Songyu would remember this kindness.
"A good family remembers old ties; they’ve given me some face and have agreed for you to collaborate with them."
"Huh?" Yu Songyu was stunned into silence; she hadn’t held any hope for this matter at all. She never expected that such a difficult task would be accomplished by the Old Lady.
"But don’t get too excited yet; they do have conditions!"
What are the conditions?
First, you need to have sufficient funds. Second, the profits from the business should be split seventy-thirty, with you taking seventy and them thirty. The wages for the staff must be paid on time without delay, and you cannot cause trouble for the collective.
Upon hearing about sufficient funds, Yu Songyu furrowed her brow. Her current financial situation was far from adequate; she hoped she wouldn’t need to provide proof of funds like in later times.
"Don't worry about the money; I’ve got your back!"
The Old Lady immediately recognized the concern on Yu Songyu's face. There was no helping it; she had a good rapport with this girl. Moreover, she had high hopes for Yu Songyu, so she considered this money as a loan to her. With the girl’s abilities, there was no need to worry about repayment.
"Then please lend me some; I’ll write you an IOU!"
Goodness, this girl really didn’t hold back! She had just handed over the rent, and now she was asking for more.
The Old Lady was also a straightforward person and readily agreed. It seemed that Yu Songyu had encountered her first benefactor in this era.
Everything was progressing in a positive direction. Yu Songyu planned to repaint the house first, set up shelves and a counter, and aimed to open the Supply and Marketing Cooperative right after the New Year!
As she teleported from the town to her grandmother's old house, just as Yu Songyu was about to step out, she heard some rustling sounds coming from the corner of the wall.
The door was locked from the outside; if she went out now, it would surely raise suspicions.
So she leaned against the wall and listened for a while, only to find that the gossip was about herself.
