Just as Yu Songyu was about to speak, Yu Qi quickly stepped in between the two.
"Alright, alright, you two! Every time you meet, it's like you're back to your childhood, bickering as usual. Go change your clothes and get ready for dinner!"
With the kids away, it had been peaceful, but now that they were back, it felt chaotic and noisy.
Yu Songbai emerged after changing his clothes and saw Yu Songyu playing chess with their father.
"With your terrible chess skills, you still dare to play?"
Watching Yu Songyu resting her chin on her hand, deep in thought, Yu Songbai couldn't help but tease her.
"Yu Songbai!"
Just as he was getting annoyed, this guy had come right to him!
Yu Songyu shouted angrily and jumped up to give Yu Songbai a hard knock on the head.
"Ouch! What are you doing? You’re really going too far! I'm your brother! Your own brother!"
Yu Songbai rubbed his head, nearly in tears from the pain.
"Mom and Dad, can't you do something? Look at her, acting like a boy! What kind of sister hits her brother? This is outrageous!"
Seeing Yu Songyu raise her hand in a threatening manner, Yu Songbai quickly hid behind Yu Ba.
He wasn’t stupid; if he got into a fight with this brat, who knew how his parents would deal with him!
"You little rascal, I don’t think you’re at a loss at all!"
The two were in the middle of a chess game when this guy had to come and mess it all up.
Yu Ba was fuming and picked up a slipper to throw at Yu Songbai.
"Mom! Mom! Dad is hitting me!"
Realizing that he couldn't rely on his father for help, Yu Songbai quickly sought refuge with Qi Qin.
"How old are you now? Look at you; where’s your sense of being an older brother? You finally come back and can’t even have a nice chat with your sister?"
"Is it me who can’t chat nicely with her? She came right at me and hit me on the head; it still hurts!"
Yu Qi sighed helplessly; these two had been fighting since they were little, like sworn enemies from a past life.
As a capable homemaker, she worked quickly, and before long, a large table filled with steaming hot dishes was ready.
"Wash your hands, it's time to eat!"
As the dishes were all served, Yu Qi took off her apron and called out. She understood that it wasn't easy for the children outside. As a housewife with limited resources, all she wanted was to prepare a few delicious meals for them when they returned home.
Knock, knock, knock!
Just as they settled down, a knock on the door interrupted them. Who could it be? So inconsiderate! Arriving right at mealtime, why not come earlier or later?
Yu Songbai, visibly annoyed, stood up to open the door. He was curious to see which reckless person had come knocking at such an inconvenient time.
It was Ying Zhang. "You... what are you doing here?"
As Yu Songbai opened the door and was about to express his frustration, he was taken aback by the sight of Gu Ting standing tall outside.
"What? You’re not welcoming me?"
"Ah! Yes, yes! Welcome! Ying Zhang, your visit is truly an honor!"
The speed at which Yu Songbai's expression changed could rival that of a Sichuan opera face-changing performance. Completely disregarding his earlier irritation, he adopted a fawning demeanor that made Yu Songyu cringe.
"Xiao Ting, come in quickly! Dinner is ready!" Yu Songbai hurriedly grabbed a pair of chopsticks.
Hearing Gu Ting's voice, Yu Qi quickly stood up to greet him warmly. The man before her stood tall with sharp features and a mature aura—he was indeed the perfect candidate for a son-in-law.
Moreover, their families had such a good relationship and knew each other well; it felt like they were already family.
"Uncle and Auntie, my parents asked me to bring you something!" Gu Ting said politely.
Yu Qi's fondness for him grew as she listened. "There's no need for gifts among family!"
"It's not really a gift; it's just some local specialties my relatives brought from out of town. My parents wanted me to share them with you!"
"Great! Now wash your hands and let's eat!"
Yu Qi signaled Yu Songbai to accept the gifts and pulled Gu Ting toward the dining table.
Yu Songbai felt as if he was experiencing a hallucination. How could he think that his mother was closer to Gu Ting than to her own son?
