It was so beautiful here, almost unreal, with the plants appearing larger than those in reality.
As they walked along, they encountered various types of mushrooms, each differing in size. Some were as small as a finger, while others seemed to be over a meter in diameter, resembling little houses.
“Xiao Yu, is that a strawberry?” Bai Jie suddenly exclaimed, spotting a wild strawberry that was vibrant and glossy, making her mouth water. Unable to resist, she dashed over to pick it up, cradling it in her palm; it was as big as an apple!
Yu Songyu was equally surprised that such fruit could exist here, though she wondered if it tasted the same as the ones in their world. Seeing Bai Jie about to take a bite, Yu Songyu quickly intervened.
“Wait! We don’t even know if it’s poisonous. Don’t eat it recklessly!”
That made sense, but it really did look delicious! Bai Jie swallowed hard and, noticing that Yu Songyu had fallen silent, decided to place the strawberry into the basket strapped to her back.
“We should gather some of these edible things and take them back. Later we can research what they are and test for poison!” Yu Songyu advised, worried that Bai Jie might give in to temptation and end up in trouble.
But it wasn’t entirely Bai Jie’s fault; the fruits here were simply too enticing—large and plump, they looked fresh and juicy.
“Is that a Pine Cone?” Bai Jie looked up at the treetops where Pine Cones as big as beehives hung densely.
“Wow! This is really something!” Yu Songyu couldn’t help but marvel at the wonders of this place.
“Yeah! With so many of them, we could sell them for money!” Bai Jie seemed to envision the Pine Cones being exchanged for cash; after all, what hung on those trees was pure profit!
“I’m not talking about quantity. Didn’t you notice? Fruits shouldn’t all ripen in the same season! And throughout our journey, have you seen any rotten or spoiled fruits? They seem to mature and then just stay that way!”
“Oh my gosh, you’re right! I hadn’t even noticed until you mentioned it!”
With Yu Songyu’s reminder, Bai Jie finally recognized the mysterious nature of their surroundings.
As they walked further ahead, Yu Songyu felt as if she had come across ginseng and reishi mushrooms. She recognized the leaves of ginseng, having been introduced to them in detail by Wang Jianjun, who had even promised to take her to the mountains to dig for ginseng one day.
The reishi mushrooms were stunningly beautiful, not only large like a disc but also vibrant in color. They resembled a giant peony blooming at the foot of a tree. There were many varieties of reishi, and Yu Songyu wasn't very familiar with them, so she picked a small piece from each and placed them in her backpack.
"Oh no, I can't go on!" Bai Jie exclaimed as she plopped down under a large mushroom, looking oddly amusing.
"Didn't I tell you that Spirit Spring Water can strengthen your body? Have you been drinking it lately?"
"Yes, but maybe not enough. I'm still tired!"
Yu Songyu sat down beside her, their shoulders touching. Watching two dogs chase each other not far away made her feel that this simple life wasn't so bad after all.
"Xiao Jie, I still want to go find him! I want to see how he's doing."
"Then go! Do what you want to do; follow your heart so you won't regret it later!"
"You don't oppose it?"
"Why would I oppose? My sister is pursuing her own happiness. If I were to stop you from that, would I still be human? Just go boldly and do what you want; I'm here, and I truly like it here!"
"Don't you wish I would stay with you?"
"I do wish that, but you have your own things to do. I'm an adult now; I'm not a child anymore, and I don't have any romantic feelings for girls, haha!"
Yu Songyu rested her head on Bai Jie's shoulder, feeling a deep sense of companionship between them.
"But I have one request!"
"What request?"
"It's just that you need to let me out often and then bring me back in! Hahaha!"
