Having lived in the courtyard for so long, they had developed a bond that felt stronger than family. "Alright, you all pack your things. I'm going to find Wang Zhaoran and will come back to pick you up!"
Yu Suihuan was uncertain if Wang Zhaoran was home lately. Besides sourcing goods and finding markets for them, he was also busy with social engagements, making him quite the busy person.
Just then, Wang Zhaoran had just returned from a round of inspections at Supply and Marketing when he bumped into the hurried Yu Suihuan. After explaining his purpose, Yu Suihuan added, "Wang Zhaoran, there are supplies stored by the Japanese Army in that cave. The recent accidental explosion of a landmine caused a large pit to open up, revealing an ancient tomb. If you want what's inside, you should gather some people to explore it."
Yu Suihuan was also interested in the treasures inside, but she felt uneasy about going down into the tomb herself.
"Is that true?"
"Absolutely!"
Yu Suihuan couldn't reveal that Lai Fu had already scouted it out; it was inconvenient to explain. However, she knew that Wang Zhaoran trusted her completely.
That afternoon, after Wang Zhaoran took Wang Heng and sent everyone back to Shi Gou Village, he gathered a few of his younger brothers to venture into the mountains.
"Godfather, I want to go too!"
"What do you want to go for? Staying home with your Godmother is better than anything else."
As Wang Zhaoran packed his tools, he replied.
"I'm at ease with Godmother here; everyone is around, so there's nothing to worry about!"
The implication was clear: he didn't trust his Godfather to go into the mountains alone. Wang Zhaoran felt warmth in his heart at this thought.
Seeing that Wang Zhaoran remained silent, Wang Heng continued to persuade him. "Godfather, just take me along! I'm old enough now and won't hold you back. Besides, how often do we get a chance to encounter an ancient tomb? Let me come along and broaden my horizons!"
The young man was growing more spirited; despite his youthful features, one could already see the shadow of a man emerging.
Wang Zhaoran couldn't refuse him and finally agreed.
Having grown up together since childhood, these brothers were very trustworthy. Besides, he would protect him anyway; it was fine to let him tag along.
"Hey, Godfather, let me carry that for you!"
The young man took the backpack from Wang Zhaoran's hands. Inside were ropes, candles, and a lighter, along with some rations and a water bottle.
Wang Zhaoran smiled and gave Wang Heng a light pat on the back of his head before picking up a shovel and two sickles, leading the group into the mountains.
As dusk approached, they finally reached the site of the previous landslide before the sun set. On their way back from town to Shi Gou Village, Yu Suihuan had already explained to him in detail the location of the cave entrance and the areas that might trigger the minefield. The group had been cautious along the way and had made good progress.
The reason for leading everyone to dig for treasure wasn't out of greed; now that he had sons of his own, he naturally wanted to make some money to leave behind a legacy for them.
"Brother Lai, this is it!"
A scruffy-looking man with a stubbly beard spoke up. As he did, he revealed a set of crooked teeth that made him look rather untrustworthy.
"That's right, but we need to dig from the back!"
Yu Suihuan mentioned that the Japanese Army's storage area was just one wall away from where Wang Jianjun was trapped, so he planned to start digging from the side.
"Alright, guys, let's get started!"
The man spat into his palm, rolled up his sleeves, and called out to everyone.
"Start!"
The others responded and followed Wang Zhaoran to the side, digging vigorously.
