Zhou Xiaxia couldn't understand why she was so unlucky to run into him at this hour.
Little did she know that Zhou Yinkun was actually on his way to her house, so it was no surprise they crossed paths on this well-trodden route. The man was unaware that the girl had been plagued by nightmares and feverish abdominal pain due to the restaurant incident, spending an entire night in the hospital receiving IV treatment before finally feeling a bit better.
All he knew was that Zhou Xiaxia hadn't called anyone.
Seeing her standing still, Zhou Yinkun tilted his head and said, "Waiting for me to personally invite you, are you?"
With no other choice, Zhou Xiaxia stepped forward, stopping just a step away from the car door. "Uncle."
Noticing that she was out alone at this hour without a bodyguard, Zhou Yinkun raised an eyebrow. "Sneaking out, are we?"
Zhou Xiaxia lowered her head and replied softly, "No..."
"Zhou Yaohui is home, right? I need to talk to him."
At his words, Zhou Xiaxia immediately looked up. "He's not home! Uncle, why don't you come back another time?"
Zhou Yinkun said, "If you're lying, I'll chop you into pieces in front of Zhou Yaohui and let the dogs eat you."
Zhou Xiaxia shivered in fear, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm not lying! Mom and Dad are both out. Tonight is Duchess Ya Weng's birthday party; Dad really isn't home."
Her tone was earnest for someone so young, clearly valuing her life.
Zhou Yinkun chuckled. "That's fine. I just need to grab something from his study. Get in."
The car door opened.
Zhou Xiaxia had never imagined that someone could be so brazen as to go into another person's house without permission under the pretense of taking something. She couldn't believe it; her instinctive "no" got stuck in her throat and she didn't dare voice it.
"Uncle... Dad doesn't let me go into his study casually. Maybe you should ask him," Zhou Xiaxia attempted to reason gently.
Zhou Yinkun grew impatient.
The child, caught in a state of indecision, was more troublesome than a woman. Clearly capable of understanding human speech, she never listened to a single word. As she saw those long legs descend from the car, Zhou Xiaxia felt the urge to run again. But how could she outrun a car? If she were caught while trying to escape, the consequences would be dire—far worse than being torn apart as he had described.
A sense of oppression washed over her, and Zhou Xiaxia couldn't think of a way to escape.
The tall man approached her, about to say something when suddenly, a blinding light flashed before his eyes. The once dark and quiet road was now filled with the sound of several vehicles speeding toward them.
Before Zhou Xiaxia could comprehend what was happening, pain shot through her wrist as she was yanked forward, nearly stumbling. In the next moment, she was pulled into the car and the door slammed shut behind her. The vehicle sped away, and a large hand pressed her head down.
With a loud bang, the rear window emitted a muffled sound as thick bulletproof glass cracked under the impact of a bullet.
The next bullet smartly changed direction, striking the rear right door with a deafening noise that made Zhou Xiaxia scream in fright as she instinctively ducked to the left. She crouched beside Zhou Yinkun's legs; the car was moving too fast and violently for her to maintain her balance. Her frail shoulders were repeatedly slammed against the back of the driver's seat, causing her immense pain. Desperate for support, she clung tightly to the man's leg.
The soft sensation against her calf came from Zhou Yinkun as he readied his gun. He glanced down and saw a small section of her pale neck; curled up beside him like that, she didn’t seem so small after all.
Zhou Xiaxia couldn’t fathom how Zhou Yinkun could remain focused on anything else in this situation. All she knew was that tonight she would surely be dragged into danger. The sounds of speeding cars and gunfire outside indicated that there were many vehicles and many guns involved. Inside their car, there were only three people including herself. She had no idea if A Yao, who was driving, had a gun; even if he did, he would be unable to fight back while driving.
With such thoughts racing through her mind, her premonition of dying tonight grew stronger.
“Brother Kun, we’re two intersections away from Long Street,” A Yao said calmly as he pushed the car to its maximum speed. Zhou Xiaxia began to feel dizzy from the rapid movement.
Yet Zhou Yinkun’s voice carried an unexpected excitement.
“Turn here.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhou Xiaxia was thrown off balance by a sharp turn, almost sent flying forward. Just then, she felt a strong arm wrap around her waist and pull her back tightly; in an instant, she found herself lying across powerful thighs.
Her shirt rode up slightly, exposing her slender waist against his leg. Zhou Xiaxia felt both startled and embarrassed as she struggled to pull her shirt down.
But before she could fully regain her composure, a slap landed on her backside, accompanied by Zhou Yinkun's voice: “Behave yourself; do you want to die?”
The girl froze immediately. Just seconds later, as the car made its final turn onto the left street, she caught a glimpse of Zhou Yinkun raising his right arm. At that moment, gunfire erupted simultaneously from both the front and back seats.
Zhou Xiaxia immediately turned her head. The car did not stop, and A Yao in the driver's seat held his right arm straight, his gun drawn in the same manner as the man in the back seat.
Six shots rang out, and after a few seconds of deceleration, the car accelerated back to its top speed.
“Brother Kun, we’ll be at Sathorn Tower in ten minutes.”
Zhou Xiaxia did not understand what they were talking about, but after those gunshots, she heard the sharp, piercing sound of tires screeching against the ground and the loud crash of several cars colliding. Most importantly, the gunfire outside had noticeably decreased.
She hadn’t expected that in just two or three seconds of turning, Zhou Yinkun and A Yao could be so precise with their guns.
It seemed there was a glimmer of hope now.
Just as Zhou Xiaxia felt a moment of relief, she suddenly sensed a movement at her waist. She turned around quickly to see Zhou Yinkun curiously reaching into her jacket pocket. Through the thin fabric, she could clearly feel the warmth of his fingers.
“What are you doing?” Zhou Xiaxia forgot her fear and struggled to get up.
“Little niece.”
Zhou Yinkun raised her chin with his gun, the dark barrel pressing against her warm, fair neck, making her freeze in place.
His hand remained in her jacket pocket as he spoke slowly, “If you don’t behave, I’ll have to press you against the window to block bullets. Do you think having several holes in your face would look good?”
Zhou Xiaxia couldn’t even begin to imagine that scene.
He always spoke the most terrifying things in a light-hearted tone, and no one dared to take it as a joke—not even her—because Zhou Yinkun was capable of such actions.
Holding her breath, Zhou Xiaxia watched as he pulled out her phone from her pocket and dialed a number before finally placing it to his ear.
Once he successfully retrieved the phone, the gun finally left her chin.
As they waited for the call to connect, Zhou Yinkun noticed Zhou Xiaxia’s face had been flushed since earlier but was now completely red. Perhaps it was his words that had frightened her; she lay stiffly across his lap, not daring to move.
Zhou Yinkun squinted, his gaze sweeping over her body until it landed on the slender waist that was exposed.
Ah, so that’s the reason for her flushed face.
The phone continued to emit a “beep—beep—” sound. With one hand holding the phone, the other hand with the gun moved closer to Xiaxia's side.
Xiaxia felt a weight on her back as the gun pressed against her. The cold, hard metal contrasted sharply with her delicate skin.
She shivered slightly and called out timidly, “Uncle,” her voice trembling. She truly had no idea what Zhou Yinkun intended to do.
Hearing her quivering voice and noticing her flushed earlobes, the man didn’t show any mercy; instead, he found it even more amusing.
Two fingers teasingly pinched the edge of the girl’s thin top, rubbing it lightly. It seemed as if he might pull it down to cover her exposed skin or lift it up at any moment, leaving her completely bare.
Such a small gesture was enough to make the girl's heart race.
While Xiaxia worried that he might lift her shirt, she also couldn’t understand why Zhou Yinkun was using her phone; there were hardly any contacts in it.
Could it be… Her eyes widened in sudden realization.
At that moment, the call connected.
She heard Zhou Yinkun laughing as he said, “Big Brother, I’m being chased! Come save me.”
