A group led by Wang Lihua walked along the rugged mountain path, a peculiar Lingqi permeating the air, far denser than in the Original World. Zhou Haoran excitedly pulled out his Detection Device, and the readings skyrocketed.
"This Spiritual Energy Concentration is insane!" Zhou Haoran adjusted his glasses. "No wonder their cultivation levels are so high; it's like they're training in a Lingqi soup."
Wang Lihua chuckled at his remark. "In your world, Lingqi has just begun to revive, so of course it’s thin. Here, it has been a hundred years; Lingqi has seeped into every inch of land and every drop of water."
Lin Yuan silently observed the surroundings, remaining vigilant. The Tianhua National Qi Gong Association in this parallel world appeared friendly on the surface, but he could clearly see the ambition flickering in Li Honghe's sharp eyes.
"By the way, where's your flying vehicle?" Zhang Qiang complained, rubbing his arm that had been impacted by Lingqi. "We've been walking for ages; my legs are sore."
"We're almost there," Wang Lihua pointed ahead to a dense grove of trees. "Our base is deep within that ancient forest. To avoid detection, the flying vehicles are parked in a concealed area."
Suddenly, Su Jiu'er stopped in her tracks, her compass vibrating violently in her hand. She frowned at Lin Yuan. "Something feels off."
Lin Yuan understood immediately and activated his Guan Qi Abilities to scan the environment. Sure enough, a strange Spiritual Energy Fluctuation was rapidly approaching from deep within the forest.
"Director Wang," Lin Yuan said coldly, "your 'friends' are coming."
Wang Lihua's expression changed instantly as he quickly took out a device resembling a watch. After checking the data, his face grew even graver. "Damn it, it's a pack of spirit beasts! They shouldn't be appearing at this time."
"Spirit beasts?" Zhou Haoran asked curiously. "What kind of spirit beasts?"
No sooner had he spoken than a deafening roar echoed from the woods, shaking the ground beneath them. Following that, countless pairs of glowing green eyes emerged from the thickets, surrounding the group.
"What the hell are those things?" Zhang Qiang gasped in shock.
The creatures were massive; some resembled wolves but had six legs; others looked like bears but were covered in tough scales; and some resembled felines yet had two heads. They emanated powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuations, their eyes gleaming with ferocity.
"Mutated Spirit Beasts," Wang Lihua quickly drew a peculiar handgun from his waist. "After the Spiritual Energy Revival, some animals absorbed a large amount of Lingqi and mutated. They are exceptionally fierce and possess high intelligence, making them the most dangerous creatures in this forest."
The two assistants behind him also drew their weapons and assumed combat stances.
"How many are there?" Lin Yuan asked calmly, simultaneously initiating the preheating program for the Time Manipulator.
Su Jiu'er closed her eyes, sensing for a moment before opening them. "At least thirty, and one of them is particularly powerful; it should be the leader."
"Thirty?" Wang Lihua's expression darkened further. "Usually, they travel in groups of no more than a dozen. Why are there so many this time?"
Lin Yuan did not respond, as the pack of spirit beasts had already begun to move. A six-legged wolf, roughly the size of a calf, lunged forward at astonishing speed.
"Material Decomposition!"
With a wave of his right hand, a golden light flashed, and the front limbs of the spirit beast instantly transformed into Lingqi Particles and dissipated. However, to everyone's shock, the beast did not cease its attack; instead, it charged at Lin Yuan even more ferociously, with its severed limbs starting to regrow!
"They have regeneration abilities!" Wang Lihua shouted as he pulled the trigger. A Blue Beam shot from the barrel, striking the spirit beast squarely in the forehead, causing it to crash to the ground.
"Aim for the Spirit Core in their forehead! That's their weak point!"
Before his words could fully register, more spirit beasts charged in. The battle erupted instantly.
Wang Lihua and his two assistants coordinated seamlessly, forming a triangular formation with their backs against each other. Blue Beams continuously fired, each shot hitting the vital points of the spirit beasts with precision.
Zhang Qiang swung his Nine-section Whip, ensnaring one spirit beast's neck and yanking it hard, causing it to lose balance. Zhou Haoran seized the opportunity to rush forward with a laser cutter in hand, slicing open the beast's forehead and extracting a crystal that shimmered with an eerie glow.
"Is this the Spirit Core?" Zhou Haoran asked curiously as he examined the crystal in his hand.
"Stop studying it! Get out of the way!" Su Jiu'er screamed.
A larger spirit beast descended from the sky, nearly knocking Zhou Haoran over. Su Jiu'er’s compass flew out of her hand, transforming into a Bronze shield that blocked Zhou Haoran. The spirit beast crashed into the shield, letting out a pained howl, but quickly got back up, ready to attack again.
At that moment, Lin Yuan had already dealt with three spirit beasts, but more continued to swarm in. He sensed that the Time Manipulator was fully charged and ready to activate when suddenly he felt a powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuation coming from deep within the forest.
"Be careful! The leader is coming!" Lin Yuan shouted.
As soon as he finished speaking, a massive beast burst through the trees, snapping them in half. It was pitch black, resembling a fierce tiger but with three heads and six eyes glowing with a blood-red light. Its back was covered in sharp spikes, and each step it took shook the ground.
"The Three-Headed Demon Tiger!" Wang Lihua exclaimed. "This is an S-Class Spirit Beast! We must retreat!"
But it was too late; the Three-Headed Demon Tiger had already locked onto them. All three heads opened their gaping maws simultaneously, a blinding red light glowing deep within their throats.
"It's going to fire the Spirit Cannon! Scatter!" Wang Lihua shouted.
Lin Yuan made a quick decision: "Time-Space Manipulation: Time Deceleration!"
The world slowed down in his eyes as the Spirit Cannon began to slowly gather in the mouth of the Three-Headed Demon Tiger. Lin Yuan turned to Su Jiu'er. "Use the compass to locate its Spirit Core!"
Su Jiu'er immediately understood Lin Yuan's intent. The compass spun rapidly in her hand before finally stopping at the center forehead of the middle head of the Three-Headed Demon Tiger. "It's right there!"
Lin Yuan nodded. "Zhou Haoran, Zhang Qiang, you two hold off the other spirit beasts. Su Jiu'er, get ready with the compass; I need your support!"
The crowd sprang into action. Lin Yuan took a deep breath and fully activated his Time Manipulator: "Time-Space Manipulation: Time Stopped!"
The world around him fell completely still once more. Lin Yuan knew he had only one second to act, and he had to make it count. He dashed towards the Three-Headed Demon Tiger, his right hand glowing with golden light as he aimed for the center head's forehead.
"Material Decomposition!"
However, to Lin Yuan's shock, his ability was blocked by a strange Spiritual Barrier. The barrier writhed and shifted like a living creature, resisting his decomposition power.
"Damn it!" Lin Yuan gritted his teeth and increased his output.
As Time Stopped was about to end, a sharp pain shot through his arm. The barrier was too strong; his ability couldn't fully penetrate it. Just at that critical moment, a beam of Bronze light suddenly shot in from the side—it was Su Jiu'er’s compass.
The compass collided with the barrier, producing a deafening hum. A crack appeared in the barrier, and Lin Yuan seized the opportunity to unleash his Material Decomposition Ability with all his might. The golden light surged through the crack, striking the Three-Headed Demon Tiger's forehead.
As time resumed its flow, the Three-Headed Demon Tiger let out a earth-shattering scream. Its center head began to disintegrate, turning into countless Lingqi particles that scattered into the air. However, the other two heads remained intact and roared even more ferociously.
"It has three Spirit Cores!" Wang Lihua exclaimed from the side. "Each head has one!"
Lin Yuan's heart sank at her words. The Time Manipulator had just been fully activated and could not be used again in a short time. Although the Three-Headed Demon Tiger had lost one head, the remaining two were now even more enraged, their Spirit Cannons charging up.
"Lin Yuan, catch!" Su Jiu'er suddenly threw the compass towards him.
Lin Yuan caught the compass and immediately felt a powerful surge of Lingqi flowing into his body from it. Su Jiu'er had infused all her accumulated Lingqi into the compass to provide energy for him!
"Time-Space Manipulation: Time Rewind!"
Lin Yuan attempted a power he had never used before. The energy within the compass resonated with the Time Manipulator, creating a peculiar ripple in space-time that spread outwards from Lin Yuan.
The movements of the Three-Headed Demon Tiger began to reverse, its two heads merging back into three, and the Spirit Core in its forehead restored to completeness. Seizing this opportunity, Lin Yuan locked onto the positions of the three Spirit Cores.
"Material Decomposition: Triple Strike!"
Three beams of golden light shot forth simultaneously, striking the three Spirit Cores with precision. The Three-Headed Demon Tiger didn’t even have time to let out a scream before its massive body collapsed like a sand tower, dissipating into countless Lingqi Particles.
A powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuation erupted from where the Three-Headed Demon Tiger had vanished, forming a massive energy Shockwave that spread in all directions.
"Watch out!" Zhou Haoran shouted, "The Spirit Core exploded!"
Lin Yuan had no time to react as the Shockwave reached him. In that critical moment, Wang Lihua suddenly dashed in front of Lin Yuan, forming hand seals. A Blue Light Shield enveloped everyone. The Shockwave crashed against the shield with a deafening roar but was ultimately blocked.
With the leader's fall, the remaining spirit beasts seemed to lose their will to fight and retreated deep into the forest. The battlefield was left with only the panting group and several spirit beast corpses.
"Phew... that was so thrilling!" Zhang Qiang collapsed onto the ground, his Nine-section Whip broken into several pieces. "Are all the monsters around here this fierce?"
Wang Lihua lowered the shield, his face pale but his eyes sparkling with surprise. "You all... are very strong. Especially you," he said, looking at Lin Yuan. "That Time-Space Manipulation ability—I’ve only heard of it in legends."
Lin Yuan did not respond but walked towards where the Three-Headed Demon Tiger had disappeared. On the ground lay three fist-sized crystals emitting a faint red glow.
"Is this what an S-Class Spirit Beast's Spirit Core looks like?" Lin Yuan picked one up, feeling the immense energy contained within.
Wang Lihua nodded. "It's a very precious material that can be used to craft high-level artifacts or refine spiritual pills." He paused for a moment. "According to the rules, the hunter has priority in choosing. You can take one of these three Spirit Cores."
Lin Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Just one?"
Wang Lihua smiled. "That's already quite generous. You must understand, the S-Class Spirit Core is considered a strategic resource on our side and needs to be submitted to the association. Giving you one is already an exception."
After a moment of thought, Lin Yuan put away all three Spirit Cores. "I'm sorry, but our rule is that whoever kills it gets to keep it."
The atmosphere instantly grew tense. Wang Lihua's two assistants had quietly placed their hands on their weapons, ready to act at any moment.
"Interesting," Wang Lihua suddenly laughed. "Chairman Li was right; you are indeed special." He waved his hand to signal his assistants to relax. "Forget it, let's make an exception this time. After all, without you, we might have already become snacks for the spirit beasts."
Lin Yuan nodded slightly, but his vigilance did not wane. Wang Lihua's overly agreeable demeanor only raised suspicions.
"Let's continue on our way," Wang Lihua said as he turned around. "The base is just ahead. There are protective formations there, so we won't be attacked by spirit beasts anymore."
The group moved forward, and the atmosphere became even more delicate than before. Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er walked at the back, speaking in hushed tones.
"Do you think this attack was a coincidence?" Lin Yuan asked.
Su Jiu'er shook her head. "It's too coincidental. And did you notice Wang Lihua's reaction to that Three-Headed Demon Tiger? It seemed like he already knew of its existence."
Lin Yuan nodded. "I feel the same way. This could be a test to gauge our strength and reactions."
"What should we do next?"
"Let's go to the base first and gather more information," Lin Yuan whispered. "At the same time, we need to find a way back. The Qi Gong Association in this world is probably not as simple as it appears."
Su Jiu'er glanced ahead at Wang Lihua with concern. "I can't shake the feeling that they have ulterior motives. Especially that Li Honghe, his gaze..."
"I know," Lin Yuan replied, tightening his grip on the bag containing three Spirit Cores. "But right now, we have no choice but to take it one step at a time."
Wang Lihua suddenly stopped and pointed to a seemingly ordinary grove of trees. "We've arrived; our base is just beyond there."
Lin Yuan focused his gaze and noticed a faint energy fluctuation within the trees, almost imperceptible, like ripples on water, fleeting and elusive.
"A protective formation?" Lin Yuan asked.
Wang Lihua nodded. "Exactly. The most advanced spiritual energy barrier, capable of blocking all detection and attacks." He gestured invitingly. "Welcome to the Tianhua National Qi Gong Association's Third Research Institute."
Taking a deep breath, Lin Yuan exchanged glances with his companions before stepping toward the seemingly ordinary grove. Whatever awaited them ahead, they had no other choice.
As they passed through the Energy Barrier, Lin Yuan felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. When his vision cleared, the sight before them left everyone in awe.
A massive metallic complex loomed in the center of the forest, with towering spires glowing blue against the sky. Countless uniformed personnel moved swiftly between the buildings, while peculiar flying vehicles patrolled overhead.
"Welcome to our world," Wang Lihua smiled. "Chairman Li is waiting for you in the main building."
Lin Yuan surveyed everything around him, alarm bells ringing in his mind. This was no mere research institute; it was clearly a military base!
