The Jiang Bao family smiled but chose not to speak, unwilling to engage in a debate with Chu Mei. However, once Chu Mei opened her mouth, there was no stopping her.
"By the way, could this Jiang Chen be your daughter's boyfriend? He’s quite handsome," Chu Mei asked.
"No, what kind of boyfriend calls her 'sister'?" the Jiang Bao family explained.
"That's good to hear. Jiang Lu is beautiful and not too young anymore; she should be dating. I'm not an outsider, so there's no need to hide anything from me," Chu Mei said cheerfully, though her demeanor always carried a hint of coldness beneath the surface.
"Hehe, Xiao Lu hasn't graduated from college yet and isn't ready for a relationship," the Jiang Bao family replied.
Hearing this, Chu Mei nodded. "I thought so too. Xiao Lu is becoming more and more refined; her standards will definitely be high. When she does find a boyfriend, you need to keep an eye on it—don’t let her end up with someone as honest as Jiang Chen," she said with a tone that suggested it would be a disadvantage for Jiang Lu to date someone like Jiang Chen.
"That's true, that's true," the Jiang Bao family responded with a forced smile.
Jiang Chen, sitting nearby and scrolling through his phone, merely smiled faintly at these comments. Aunt Chu had a personality that thrived on showing off; it would be unbearable for her to go a day without boasting. Now that she had finally returned home in style, she naturally wanted to flaunt it in front of old friends, albeit subtly.
To Jiang Chen, Chu Mei's bragging seemed childish and laughable. However, to maintain harmony among them, he pretended not to understand and played along with her performance to satisfy her vanity.
"Dinner is ready," Zhou Rongli called out.
"Let’s all go eat," the Jiang Bao family sighed in relief; they could not continue the conversation with Chu Mei any longer and were glad for the excuse to leave.
Only then did Chu Mei pull her daughter up from her seat. "Rongli, it's so much easier to eat out at a restaurant than cooking at home; it’s too much trouble," she insisted before they started eating.
"Do you dislike my cooking?" Zhou Rongli pretended to be angry.
"Of course not! I remember coming over often to eat at your house before. Rongli, hurry and wash your hands; I have a gift for you," Chu Mei said with a smile.
"What gift?" Zhou Rongli asked, slightly surprised but still went to wash her hands. Once everyone was seated at the dining table, Chu Mei took out a Cartier bracelet from her bag.
"I saw this bracelet while shopping and thought it suited your style perfectly, so I bought it. I was going to send it to you but since I'm back now, I brought it along," Chu Mei said as she handed over the bracelet with a smile.
Zhou Rongli instinctively looked at the price tag when she received the bracelet—over one hundred thousand.
"This... this bracelet is too expensive! I can't accept it," Zhou Rongli exclaimed in shock and quickly tried to return it.
"It is a bit pricey, but our friendship over the years can't be measured by money. This is Cartier's latest model; just accept it. A hundred thousand isn’t much for me—I spend millions on beauty treatments each year," Chu Mei laughed, embodying the image of a wealthy woman.
Zhou Rongli felt somewhat touched; although Chu Mei loved to show off, she was genuinely kind-hearted towards her.
"Then I'll accept it," Zhou Rongli said, seeing Chu Mei's insistence. He thought about how he would return the favor later, considering his son was doing well now, and giving a valuable gift wouldn't be a problem.
"Put it on now," Chu Mei smiled.
"Alright, I'll wear it," Zhou Rongli replied as he slipped the bracelet onto his wrist.
