The old man was Zhou Zhi, the President of the Martial Arts Association, and a long-time friend of Liu Chaowu. Upon seeing Liu Chaowu, he naturally came over to greet him.
"Uh, this is Mr. Jiang. He’s not from our Hangzhou Martial Arts Association; he’s just here to watch the competition," Liu Chaowu explained awkwardly.
"Oh, I see. Old Liu, why didn’t you bring any of your young practitioners from the Hangzhou Martial Arts Association?" Zhou Zhi asked with a smile.
Today was a gathering of the Martial Arts Association, and it was unusual for someone not affiliated with the association to be present. Although Zhou Zhi didn’t voice it, he felt that it was inappropriate for Liu Chaowu to bring along two individuals unrelated to the Martial Arts Association. In such circles, outsiders were generally not welcomed.
"They need to prepare for tomorrow's competition. I wanted them to rest well; they need to focus before the match," Liu Chaowu said with a smile, though internally he had different thoughts. For him, this Martial Arts Competition was of little importance; what mattered more was whether he could establish even a slight connection with Jiang Chen and gain some guidance from him.
Of course, this was not something he could share with outsiders.
"You’re too strict with the young ones. They should participate in gatherings like this; social connections are important in society. This is a rare opportunity for them to get to know each other. Old Liu, let me introduce you—this is my granddaughter, Zhou Hongmeng. She grew up abroad and is well-versed in various martial arts from around the world. She has achieved good results in the European Youth Martial Arts Competition, and she returned home this time to win the championship in this Martial Arts Competition," Zhou Zhi said with a smile.
"Hello, Uncle Liu," Zhou Hongmeng greeted with a smile.
"Hello. But Old Zhou, we’ve been friends for many years. I believe that while it’s good to have a broad knowledge of martial arts, there’s a downside as well; if you spread yourself too thin, it becomes difficult to excel in one area. I think our Huaxia Martial Arts is the strongest. Your granddaughter doesn’t need to dabble in all kinds of martial arts from different countries; wouldn’t it be better to specialize in Huaxia Martial Arts?" Liu Chaowu replied.
"That’s not quite right, Old Liu. While our Huaxia Martial Arts is profound and extensive, other countries’ martial arts also have their merits. Don’t underestimate them. Tomorrow, my granddaughter will surprise you," Zhou Zhi said with a smile.
Everyone has their own philosophy regarding martial arts; Liu Chaowu believed that specializing in one discipline made one stronger, while Zhou Zhi thought that drawing from various strengths made one even more formidable.
Jiang Chen stood by and paid no mind to the debate between Liu Chaowu and Zhou Zhi; he merely glanced at Zhou Hongmeng. She indeed had some talent for cultivation but did not impress Jiang Chen enough for him to take her as a disciple. However, if he were to establish a sect in the future, she could still be considered for inclusion.
"What are you staring at?" Zhou Hongmeng seemed to sense Jiang Chen's gaze and her expression darkened as she glared at him unceremoniously.
"Nothing," Jiang Chen replied with a slight smile as he shifted his gaze away.
Though Jiang Chen looked away, Zhou Hongmeng was not finished; she continued aggressively, "Don’t you know that staring at girls is very rude? You should apologize."
"Haha, you think you can make my master apologize? Who do you think you are? You’re not even as pretty as me! My master wouldn’t stare at you," Lin Yin chimed in defiantly. Fearless by nature and emboldened by her master’s presence, she wasn’t intimidated at all.
