Holding the "Transcendence Nerve" and its supplementary materials, which he had exchanged for a meat sandwich from Old Lu, Mo Wen repeated to himself, "I must succeed; I want to become powerful." The supplementary material was a bottle of pills called the "Transcendence Pill." Mo Wen wondered if Old Lu had come up with that name himself; it seemed fittingly casual for Old Lu's character. According to Old Lu, taking this bottle of pills would allow him to reach the Heavenly Unity Realm. Of course, how much he could comprehend the Law of Power would depend on his own fortune, as such things were intangible and could not be influenced by external objects.
In the days that followed, Mo Wen resumed his life of hunting and cooking like a child laborer, while Old Lu, like a heartless boss, urged him to come up with new dishes. He paid little attention to Old Lu; his main focus was on deciphering the "Transcendence Nerve," while everything else seemed unimportant. He had previously expressed doubts about the efficacy of the pills. With his understanding and Old Lu's description, if one bottle could smoothly lead someone into the Heavenly Unity Realm, then wouldn't everyone be able to enter it? Why would anyone be left outside its threshold? After expressing his concerns to Old Lu, he found himself hanging from a tree as a result.
Through continuous study, Mo Wen increasingly felt that the Kung Fu in Old Lu's possession was remarkably profound and far from low-grade. Reflecting on the various Kung Fu techniques Old Lu had taught him, he realized they were all exceptionally intricate. The "Transcendence Nerve," as a Kung Fu for martial artists transcending into cultivators, was naturally more obscure than what he had encountered before. Even with his keen intellect and humble attitude in seeking guidance from Old Lu, it took him three days to fully grasp the "Transcendence Nerve." After spending a day adjusting his state of mind, Mo Wen decided it was time to advance into the Heavenly Unity Realm.
Sitting cross-legged on his designated stump by the fire pit, he took out a Transcendence Pill. There were only three pills in total, and since Mo Wen had never dealt with pills before, he was unaware of their grade. After being scolded by Old Lu, he had no choice but to accept that these pills were rare treasures; otherwise, they wouldn't be worth him being hung from a tree. Examining the pill in his hand with great seriousness yielded no results.
Calming his mind, he swallowed the pill and began circulating the "Transcendence Nerve." As he practiced Kung Fu, the pill dissolved within him. Mo Wen felt an even deeper connection with his surroundings than before; it was as if he were enveloped by something indescribably comforting. The last time he experienced something similar was during his time in the Refining Qi Realm, but this sensation was worlds apart from that experience. He could feel the Law of Power swirling around him; leaves in the forest decayed with the passage of time; flames danced in the fire pit... He felt as if he could reach out and grasp those threads of Law, yet they always slipped away just out of reach. While sensing various manifestations of the Law of Power around him, his body began to change; vitality surged toward a certain balance while also increasing.
Watching Mo Wen, who seemed unlikely to awaken anytime soon, Old Lu felt helpless. It appeared that until this kid woke up, he would have to take matters into his own hands. However, he also felt gratified; this boy's comprehension was quite high to enter such a deep state so quickly—clearly already sensing the Law of Power. It was indeed a blessing; entering such a state depended heavily on chance. The Transcendence Pill did help increase one's probability of comprehending the Law but only by a limited ten percent.
The enveloping sensation gradually faded as the threads of Law drifted away from him. He wanted to grasp these departing threads and hold onto them but failed. Slowly, that wondrous feeling dissipated along with those threads of Law, pulling him out of that extraordinary state. Sitting back down and reflecting on what he had just experienced, he sighed helplessly. Wanting to see the results of his cultivation, he circulated his energy again and found that his power had reached the early stage of perfection in the Heavenly Unity Realm—this alleviated some regret about not capturing those threads of Law. After calming himself and finishing his practice, he opened his eyes to see Old Lu busy preparing food and suddenly felt very hungry.
"Old Lu, how long have I been cultivating?" Mo Wen asked as he observed Old Lu at work. He knew that if he hadn't been in deep meditation for long, Old Lu wouldn't have started cooking on his own; after all, at Old Lu's level, he probably didn't need food anymore. The legends spoke of masters who meditated for decades or even centuries without eating; thus, seeing Old Lu cooking could only mean one thing—he was craving food and couldn't resist any longer.
"Just three days," Old Lu replied while working. "You woke up just in time; hurry over here and let me see if there's something wrong with your Secret Recipe—something feels off about the taste." Whenever Old Lu thought something tasted wrong when cooking himself, he'd blame it on Mo Wen's Secret Recipe—a habit Mo Wen had grown accustomed to by now. When Old Lu said it was for him to check out, it really meant for him to come over and cook.
"Old Lu," Mo Wen said as they ate together, "I entered a wondrous state this time and sensed many threads of Law of Power around me. I tried to grasp them but couldn't—what's going on?" As they enjoyed their meal together, Mo Wen described what he'd encountered during this experience and shared his confusion with Old Lu in hopes that he'd provide some detailed answers given their shared meal.
"To reach such a state on your first try is already impressive enough; wanting to absorb the Law of Power is simply wishful thinking," Old Lu replied while eating. "The Law of Power is attained through comprehension; only when your understanding reaches a certain level can you absorb its essence into your body for your own use. Just keep comprehending more in the future."
