However, true to his nature, he couldn't calm his mind to cultivate without first reading through the books in front of him. He knew nothing about this world and was filled with curiosity about it, so he wanted to take this opportunity to learn more. Most importantly, this knowledge could improve his chances of survival.
After putting down the last book in his hands, he felt a bit dizzy. Over the past month, aside from his fixed cultivation schedule, Mo Wen had buried himself in piles of books. At his current reading speed, he could finish the thick Chimera Compendium in just half a day, yet he had spent an entire month just reading. This showed how many books Old Lu had given him.
Though he was engrossed in reading, he did not neglect the compensation that Old Lu required. He still cooked every day, but his mind was completely elsewhere. Not only did Old Lu express dissatisfaction with his cooking skills, but even Xiao Hei began to complain about his meals. Lost in his reading, Mo Wen remained oblivious to their grievances.
"Mo, Old Man sees that you must have been a scholar in your past life," Old Lu remarked as he watched Mo Wen finally set down his book. He tossed aside a bone; it had truly been a struggle for him lately since Mo Wen's grilled meat was either burnt or undercooked.
"Old Lu, if you can see my past life, then show me my origins," Mo Wen replied.
"Stop talking nonsense and hurry up and get something good to eat for Old Man to drink with. Just look at your performance lately; you're drifting further away from being an excellent Cook. Your skills have diminished greatly..." Seeing Old Lu full of complaints, Mo Wen could only reluctantly head to the kitchen to prepare the meal. He had come to understand Old Lu's temperament; for him, nothing could not be resolved with a good meal—if one meal wouldn't do it, then two would.
After they had eaten their fill, the three of them lay on their respective tree stumps. Old Lu burped and picked at his teeth while occasionally taking a sip from his gourd. Xiao Hei also used its claws to pick at its teeth.
Feeling that he had digested some food, Mo Wen sat up. He thought it was time for him to consider entering the Golden Body Realm. He was pondering how to find a good opportunity to ask Old Lu about some knowledge regarding the Golden Body Realm when he realized that he had delayed the matter of advancing his Realm by getting lost in reading. Now that he had finished the books and Old Lu was satisfied after eating, he felt this was a good opportunity.
"Old Lu, I have perfected my Heavenly Unity Realm and am ready to enter the next Realm. However, I know very little about the Golden Body Realm and would appreciate your guidance." Old Lu had not provided any knowledge about advancing realms beforehand; as he put it, one learns best when it is most needed. The unknown is also a form of enjoyment; knowing everything in advance would lead to impatience and instability in one's foundation and temperament, ultimately hindering cultivation.
"You've become quite astute at picking your moments. Very well, Old Man will explain this next Realm to you..." Without any unnecessary movements, Old Lu continued reclining on the tree stump as he began to explain the Golden Body Realm to Mo Wen.
"The Golden Body Realm is the first Realm of the Transcendence Stage. Entering the Golden Body Realm signifies that one has moved beyond the realm of martial artists and entered the ranks of Cultivators. The goals of the Golden Body Realm are similar to those of the Refining Body Realm; both aim to strengthen oneself and make the physical body even more powerful."
