"Alright, no problem. Lin Bingbing's temperament and acting skills are quite impressive. Mr. Jiang, your taste is truly commendable," Director Zhang said with a smile. It was essential to flatter the investor, and even a big director like him was no exception.
Jiang Chen smiled but remained silent.
"By the way, Mr. Jiang, there will be a seminar in early October in the capital, where many directors will attend. I can see that you genuinely love films, and I hope you can also support other talented directors," Director Zhang continued.
"I don't need to attend the seminar, but as for supporting Huaxia's film industry, I can certainly do that. I'll have Lvy go handle this matter. As long as there are good scripts and directors, I'm willing to invest," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"Mr. Jiang, you are truly helping us at Hua Xia Film. The film industry is struggling this year, with commercial films dominating the market. Many talented directors have had to bow to market pressures and make commercial films. If Hua Xia Film were to produce only commercial films, we would be finished. Your investment will allow us to revive Hua Xia Film and take it to new heights," Director Zhang said excitedly, nearly reaching out to grasp Jiang Chen's hand.
"Director Zhang, no need for formalities. As I said earlier, I'm willing to invest as long as there are good scripts and directors," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
While Jiang Chen and Director Zhang were chatting, Director Zhang's assistant suddenly rushed in and whispered something in his ear.
Jiang Chen wasn't particularly curious and didn't bother to listen; he simply sat on the sofa enjoying his tea.
"Mr. Jiang, I apologize, but I need to step away for a moment," Director Zhang said as he stood up apologetically.
"Please go ahead, Director Zhang," Jiang Chen smiled.
Director Zhang left the room and returned after a few minutes.
"Mr. Jiang, I want to discuss something with you. I have a friend in the capital whose son is like my half-nephew. This nephew's girlfriend is a newcomer in the film industry and wants a role in this movie. Her temperament fits the second female lead perfectly, and I'd like her to take that role if possible," Director Zhang said upon returning, somewhat hesitant.
"That's fine as long as she fits the role," Jiang Chen replied with a smile. In a society based on connections, it's understandable to bend the rules within reason.
"Thank you, Mr. Jiang! I'll let her know," Director Zhang said gratefully. His friend held significant power in the capital, so he felt obliged to grant this favor.
Outside the door, Xiao Xin was waiting, but there was no joy on her face. She had come for the lead role, so when Director Zhang mentioned that it had already been filled and that she might only get the second female lead at best, she felt quite dissatisfied.
No matter how good the second female lead was, she was still just a supporting character.
Xiao Xin had worked hard to connect with a top-tier wealthy heir in the capital, believing that with such backing she would surely secure the lead role. However, she never expected to miss out on it completely; the more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became.
When Director Zhang came out again and saw Xiao Xin, he congratulated her: "Xiao Xin, the investor has agreed for you to play the second female lead! Her temperament fits you well, and her scenes are not much less than those of the lead. If you perform excellently, you can still gain fame."
Deep down, Director Zhang actually looked down on Xiao Xin; however, he had no choice but to deal with her since she had found a powerful patron whom he couldn't afford to offend.
