"I'll come to see you tomorrow, Miss Lin. Where are you right now?" Director Zhang asked politely.
"I'm in Yulu City," she replied.
"Then I'll come to Yulu City tomorrow. We'll meet then," Director Zhang said.
"Alright, thank you, Director Zhang," she responded.
After chatting for a while, Lin Bingbing hung up the phone, feeling a renewed sense of energy.
"Girls, I have great news! Director Zhang said he wants me to play the lead role, and the investor for this movie is Jiang Chen!" Lin Bingbing exclaimed excitedly.
"We heard! Look at how happy you are! You have to seize this opportunity. If you and Jiang Chen take things further, you won't have to think about him every day," Li Ruoxi joked.
Lin Bingbing's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Ruoxi, you're just talking nonsense. I'm going to shoot a movie; I might not even see Jiang Chen," Lin Bingbing said shyly.
"It doesn't matter if you see him or not. The fact that Jiang Chen hasn't forgotten you means he still has feelings for you. You need to work hard; if you're too late, don't blame other women for swooping in. You might regret it later," Li Ruoxi said seriously.
This made Lin Bingbing feel a bit anxious, as if her beloved treasure was being eyed by others.
"Let's wait until I see Jiang Chen. Right now, I just want to perform well in the movie and not disappoint him," Lin Bingbing said.
After chatting with her friends for a while longer, she gazed at the ceiling with a smile and drifted off to sleep.
The next day, Lin Bingbing naturally stood up Director Shi's son to meet Director Zhang instead.
It wasn't until evening that she returned home, only to find that Shi Xindi, the eldest son of the Shi family, had not left yet.
Shi Xindi was the chairman of the Shi Family Group and the second son of Shi Shengguang. In the wealthy circles of Yulu City, he was known as the Second Young Master of the Shi family.
Shi Shengguang had two sons and one daughter; his eldest son, Shi Xinquan, was steady and low-key, someone his father had high hopes for. In contrast, the second son, Shi Xindi, was somewhat arrogant and willful, living life in the spotlight without any desire to learn or practice martial arts—truly a spoiled rich kid. Their youngest daughter, Shi Ning, was intelligent and skilled in martial arts, winning the affection of both their grandfather and ancestors.
"What happened? Where have you been all day? You didn't answer your phone," Mother Lin asked with a frown as soon as her daughter returned home.
"Uh, I went to meet Director Zhang today. He wants me to play the lead role in a movie that will start filming soon in Yulu City for about a year," Lin Bingbing explained reluctantly. She knew her mother would pry if she didn't say anything.
"You just said yesterday that you didn't want to return to the entertainment industry! How is it that today Director Zhang wants you for a film? What kind of movie is it that takes a year to shoot? With your status, it should be worth at least a hundred million after taxes!" Mother Lin replied with a hint of excitement in her voice; she naturally hoped her daughter would continue being a money-maker in showbiz.
"I'm doing this movie for free, so there's no money involved. Mom, please don't overthink it," Lin Bingbing said honestly. Ever since meeting Jiang Chen, her mindset had slowly changed; she began to feel indifferent towards her mother's relentless pursuit of wealth.
"What?" Mother Lin was initially pleased but exploded upon hearing her daughter wouldn't accept any payment.
"Bingbing, are you crazy? No money? What movie are you shooting? Do you think you're some kind-hearted person?" Mother Lin exclaimed angrily.
