I looked at the Wedding Dress in my hands, a garment that bore witness to my experiences and held the connection between me and the Old Tailor.
Though it had brought me much pain, it also offered a glimmer of warmth.
As I wrestled with my thoughts, Wang Zhan spoke again.
"Miss Yang, hurry up and put the Wedding Dress in."
"As long as you burn it, the nightmare will disappear."
Hearing this left me with mixed emotions.
While the Wedding Dress was indeed beautiful, I no longer wished to remain trapped in that nightmare.
With that thought, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
In the end, I made up my mind.
Burn it!
Trembling, I placed the Wedding Dress into the iron basin and took the match that Wang Zhan handed me.
Taking a deep breath, I ignited one corner of the Wedding Dress.
As the flames gradually consumed it, I felt as if something within me was also vanishing.
I felt significantly lighter.
This sensation was like saying a final goodbye to the nightmares of my past!
From now on, I will embrace a new life!
After dealing with the wedding dress, I followed Wang Zhan back to the Li Family Dam's grand mansion.
Although the red wooden building was no longer there, I still felt an intricate connection between this mansion and it.
However,
Wang Zhan mentioned that he would be staying here tonight.
Upon hearing this, I decided to stay as well.
I simply did not have the courage to return alone to that eerie place.
Fortunately, with Wang Zhan's promise, I finally felt at ease.
"Wang Zhan, thank you," I said gratefully. "If you hadn't come with me, I probably wouldn't have had the courage to return here."
Wang Zhan smiled lightly. "It's nothing. Besides, I need to come to Li Family Dam to write my thesis."
"Now that I have this material, I can feel more at ease after graduation."
Hearing this, my emotions became complicated.
Yes!
Wang Zhan came to Li Family Dam to write his thesis.
And I was here to confront that nightmare.
Now that the Wedding Dress has been burned, I can leave with peace of mind.
Thinking of this, I smiled happily and said, "Wang Zhan, dinner is on me tonight!"
"What do you want to eat?"
Wang Zhan replied with a smile, "Anything is fine!"
I walked out of the big house, ready to buy dinner.
However, not long after I left the house, I suddenly heard two girls' voices behind me.
"Hey, doesn't that girl's outfit look like it's from our school?"
Hearing this, I turned around to take a look.
Sure enough!
I saw two girls standing not far away, wearing jackets emblazoned with the Southern University school emblem.
I approached them with a smile. "Are you both from Southern University too?"
"Yes!" one of the girls nodded. "We're from Southern University."
I beamed with joy. "That's great! I'm from Southern University as well!"
"Oh? What department are you in?" the other girl asked.
I pointed to the boy behind me. "He's a graduate student in the Folklore Department, and I'm here investigating with him."
Hearing this, the two girls were stunned. "What? Folklore Department?"
"Yes!" I nodded. "Aren't you both from Southern University?"
"How could you not know about the Folklore Department?"
The two girls exchanged glances and said in unison, "We at Southern University don't have a Folklore Department at all!"
At this, I was completely bewildered.
What?
No Folklore Department?
How could that be possible?
As I was pondering this, one of the girls spoke up again.
"We're both members of the student council."
"We know all about the majors offered at our school."
"I can assure you— Southern University doesn't have a Folklore Department!"
