Although it looked tempting, he was not dazzled by the materials. Besides, there was no one else here except for Xiao Hei, so there was no need to worry about anyone snatching them away. It was just as well to deal with the Demon Beasts in the lake before retrieving the materials. The Demon Beasts had already noticed him and Xiao Hei. Encountering a Demon Beast in this place was not a good sign; surrounded by stone walls and with lava beneath his feet, there was no escaping for Mo Wen, whether he wanted to or not. Two heads emerged from the lava, their eyes fixed on Mo Wen. Clearly, they considered him a greater threat than Xiao Hei.
Mo Wen recognized the two heads as belonging to a pair of Lava Fire Crocodiles. These creatures fed on lava, their tough and resilient skin serving as armor. Their weapons were their hard and sharp teeth, and adult Lava Fire Crocodiles were comparable in strength to human Qi Binding Realm Cultivators. The two before him were clearly not juveniles. Watching the Lava Fire Crocodiles, Mo Wen felt a surge of excitement; he hadn't had a proper fight since entering the Transcendence Stage, and now was the time to test his combat abilities.
Mo Wen charged at the two Lava Fire Crocodiles with bare fists, while Xiao Hei retreated a bit, sitting down to watch the impending battle. As the small human rushed toward them, the two Lava Fire Crocodiles opened their massive jaws and lunged forward. For any creature that dared to intrude upon their territory, all Demon Beasts chose to kill and defend their domain. Although Mo Wen initiated the attack against the Lava Fire Crocodiles, he found himself at a disadvantage right from the start. He hadn’t anticipated that these massive beasts would breathe fire. He had to be careful not to fall into the lava below; while he wouldn’t be harmed immediately if he did, his movements would be severely restricted. At the same time, he needed to avoid being scorched by the flames that were much more intense than the lava itself. Most importantly, he had to prevent being bitten by those enormous jaws.
Gradually, Mo Wen began to find his rhythm in battle. Despite facing two opponents, his agility allowed him to maneuver effectively. The vulnerable spot of the Lava Fire Crocodile was located at its brow; it was both its weakest and hardest point. If he could shatter that area, it would surely lead to death for the creature; however, if he were careless enough to get bitten, it could mean either death or severe injury.
“Clang! Clang!” Mo Wen’s fists struck against the brow of one Lava Fire Crocodile, producing sounds akin to metal clashing. Previously, he had only read about how “Lava Fire Crocodiles have skin like gold and stone,” but now he was experiencing it firsthand; it was even harder than gold or stone. His fists had gone numb from the impact, yet neither of the beasts showed any signs of injury. From the very beginning, his strategy had been clear: if he struck, it must be a decisive blow aimed at their vital points. As Mo Wen continued to evade thanks to his speed, the two creatures grew increasingly agitated, and the battle intensified.
...
Watching as both beasts finally lay still and lifeless, Mo Wen collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily. At that moment, Xiao Hei came running over, circling around the bodies of the Lava Fire Crocodiles.
“I know you haven’t had fresh meat in a while; we’ll feast later,” he said as he picked up his Butcher Knife and began skillfully skinning and dismembering them. The Crocodile Skin was excellent material for crafting armor—hard yet flexible—while their teeth could be fashioned into weapons. As for the meat, it was best consumed directly. Looking at the two skeletons before him, Mo Wen felt satisfied with his technique but then glanced at his Butcher Knife with a wry smile; it had become chipped from cutting through the tough Crocodile Skin and was now nearly ruined.
