The moment the words left her lips, the people in the hall were clearly taken aback.
Especially the Yan Family, who had been waiting impatiently and were already dissatisfied with Qin Xiaoya. Now, upon her return, she made such a statement, which completely ignited their anger.
"Your engagement to my son is not something you can simply dismiss. Today, you will marry him, no matter what," Yan Wen said in a deep voice.
"Heh, is that so? If you want me to marry your useless son, that's fine, as long as My Young Master agrees," Qin Xiaoya replied with a cold laugh.
"Where is your young master?" Yan Wen's expression darkened, unsure of what Qin Xiaoya was up to.
"This is My Young Master. I am now his maid, and from now on, I will only follow his orders," Qin Xiaoya said, turning to Jiang Chen and speaking loudly.
At this point, everyone was even more dumbfounded. A maid? It was simply unbelievable that someone as proud as Qin Xiaoya would serve as a maid for someone else.
"Qin Xiaoya, you really are going to great lengths to avoid marrying into the Yan Family. Where did you find this actor? Even if you become someone else's maid, you'll still have to marry into the Yan Family. Your marriage has already been arranged by grandfather; you have no right to back out," Qin Liao scoffed.
"It's not that I'm backing out; it's that My Young Master doesn't agree. What can I do? I already said that as long as My Young Master agrees, I would have no complaints even if it meant marrying a beggar," Qin Xiaoya shot back at Qin Liao with a cold smile.
Qin Liao frowned and quickly turned to Qin Baonan, expressing his dissatisfaction. "Grandfather, look at your most beloved granddaughter. She doesn't take your words seriously at all and says such things. What she means is that your words hold less weight than that boy's."
The Qin Family members stood with Qin Liao, criticizing Qin Xiaoya for her lack of decorum.
Qin Baonan furrowed his brow. Although he knew that marrying Qin Xiaoya off to Yan Kuai Fei would be unfair to her, this matter had been settled years ago between him and the old man of the Yan Family. It was not something that could be changed; after all, people of their status valued their word above all else.
Qin Xiaoya had originally agreed to marry Yan Kuai Fei and was now on the verge of engagement; her sudden change of heart left Old Master Qin feeling embarrassed.
"Qin Xiaoya, didn't we agree on this? If you didn't want to marry Yan Kuai Fei, you could have said so earlier. But now we’ve sent out invitations and guests are about to arrive; how can you back out now? Doesn’t this put the Qin Family in a difficult position?" Qin Baonan said with a slightly grim expression and an unhappy tone.
While he doted on Qin Xiaoya, his own reputation took precedence over his granddaughter’s feelings.
"Grandfather, I don’t want to make things difficult for the Qin Family; I just don’t wish to marry Yan Kuai Fei," Qin Xiaoya replied.
"You not wanting to marry Yan Kuai Fei is just making things hard for me! When did you become so unreasonable?" Qin Baonan said sternly.
"By the way, who is this young man? You being his maid is sheer nonsense! If this gets out, how will your grandfather face anyone in the future?" Qin Baonan looked at Jiang Chen with a gloomy expression and questioned him unhappily.
"Grandfather, he is Mr. Jiang, the one who sold me the Life-Extending Pill yesterday. Didn’t you say you wanted to meet him and invited him over?" Qin Xiaoya explained.
