On Saturday morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting golden patches of light on the floor of the dormitory. Ao Bing had long been awake, sitting at his desk engrossed in a book. His movements were gentle and quiet, making sure not to disturb his still-sleeping roommate.
Since their conversation that night, their relationship had noticeably improved. Nezha had genuinely begun to pay attention to controlling his volume and made an effort to keep his area tidy; Ao Bing, in turn, had learned to relax his standards and not be overly critical of every little detail. This subtle balance made their cohabitation much more harmonious.
Ao Bing turned a page, his gaze inadvertently drifting toward Nezha. The red-haired youth was sound asleep, half of his face buried in the pillow, with the blanket only covering him to the waist, exposing his bare upper body. The morning light outlined the contours of his muscular back, a testament to years of athletic training.
Ao Bing quickly averted his gaze, feeling a strange sense of discomfort. He shook his head gently and refocused on his book.
"Umm..." A mumble came from the bed as Nezha turned over and slowly opened his eyes. Groggily surveying his surroundings, his gaze finally landed on Ao Bing. "Morning," he yawned, his voice hoarse from just waking up. "What time is it?"
"Half past nine," Ao Bing replied without looking up.
"Wow, how long have you been up?" Nezha sat up and stretched.
"About three hours."
"Three hours?!" Nezha's eyes widened in disbelief. "Oh my god, are you a robot? Getting up at six-thirty on a weekend?"
Ao Bing smiled slightly. "It's just a habit. My father has always insisted that I maintain a regular schedule, even on weekends."
"Sounds strict," Nezha pouted as he jumped off the bed and headed toward the bathroom. "My dad is pretty strict too, but he only cares about my studies and behavior; he doesn't interfere with my schedule."
"Every family has its own way of educating," Ao Bing replied calmly, placing a bookmark in the middle of the page and closing the book.
After finishing his morning routine, Nezha returned to the dorm and casually grabbed a T-shirt to put on. "What are your plans for today?" he asked while rummaging through his wardrobe for a pair of pants.
"I'll be reviewing in the morning, then heading to the library for some research in the afternoon. There's a student council meeting in the evening," Ao Bing replied, his voice still calm. "What about you?"
"I've got a soccer match scheduled with the team in the afternoon, and later I might go out for barbecue and drinks with some friends," Nezha said as he pulled out a pair of jeans and quickly got dressed. Suddenly, he remembered something. "By the way, do you want to join us? You might not be able to play soccer, but you can come for the barbecue in the evening!"
Ao Bing looked up in surprise. "You're inviting me?"
"Yeah," Nezha grinned, revealing his signature Xiao Tiger Tooth smile. "You’ll need to eat after your meeting anyway, so why not join us? The guys on the team are really fun, and...," he scratched his head awkwardly, "consider it my apology for what happened a few days ago."
Ao Bing stared at Nezha for a few seconds before gently shaking his head. "Thank you for the invitation, but I’m afraid I can’t make it. I have other plans after the student council meeting."
"What plans?" Nezha asked curiously.
"Personal matters," Ao Bing replied briefly, clearly not wanting to elaborate.
Nezha shrugged. "Alright then, maybe next time." He glanced at his watch. "I need to head out now; I have to discuss next week's tactics with the team captain. I won't be back for lunch, so you'll have to figure it out yourself!"
With that, Nezha grabbed his phone and wallet and strode out of the dorm, leaving a gust of energy behind him.
