He continued, "Five years ago, I watched the Lin Family Martial Arts School get set up. But there was nothing I could do; I could only watch your family go bankrupt."
"So you entered the underground fighting arena?"
"It's the fastest way to make money," he said with a bitter smile. "I needed to gather enough chips in the shortest time possible."
I looked at the scars on his arms—some were new, while others had already faded.
So he hadn’t had it easy either.
"But what good does your return do now…" My voice choked.
He pulled me into his embrace, and this time I didn’t struggle.
"Let me make it up to you," he whispered in my ear. "This time, I will protect you completely."
I leaned against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.
Five years had passed, yet this embrace still felt so warm.
"Tell me about sister Hong," I said quietly.
"The people behind her are the ones who plotted against the Lin family back then."
I looked up at him. "So you’re investigating them?"
"Yes." His gaze was resolute. "I want them to pay the price."
I paused for a moment. "What do you need me to do?"
"Do you trust me?"
"I hate you." I stared into his eyes. "But I hate even more those who destroyed my family."
He lowered his head and kissed my forehead. "That's enough. This time, we’ll face it together."
With a loud thud, I punched the sandbag.
This is Huo Han's private training room, and he said he would teach me Fighting Skills again.
"Your strength isn't enough." He stood behind me, gripping my wrist to adjust my stance. "Remember, your punches need to be fast, accurate, and fierce."
His breath brushed against my ear, making my heart race.
"Focus." He seemed to notice my distraction, his tone laced with amusement.
I felt a surge of frustration and turned to throw a hook punch. He easily caught my fist and pinned me against the wall.
"Your form is off." He leaned closer to me. "Have you forgotten everything after five years without practice?"
"Let go..." I struggled.
"No." He lowered his head, his nose brushing against my cheek. "Unless you agree to one thing."
"What is it?"
"Come with me to a party tonight." He released me. "It's Xiao Yuanshan's birthday celebration."
I instantly understood his intention: "You want me to fish for information?"
" sister Hong will bring Yao Yuxin along." His expression turned serious. "Xiao Yuanshan has been trying to acquire the Lin family's land; this is an opportunity."
I nodded. "Okay."
That evening, I appeared at the party in a stunning red dress.
Huo Han linked his arm with mine as we walked in, and all eyes were on us.
"Master Huo." sister Hong approached in her high heels, a forced smile plastered on her face. "I didn't expect you to bring Miss Lin."
Yao Yuxin, standing behind her, turned pale upon seeing me.
"Miss Lin is my esteemed guest," Huo Han replied coolly.
At that moment, a man in his fifties approached, saying, "Is this the daughter of the Lin family?"
" manager Xiao," sister Hong quickly introduced, "This is Lin Mu Xue."
Xiao Yuanshan looked me up and down, his gaze making me uncomfortable. "Indeed, a beauty. No wonder Master Huo treasures you so much."
I suppressed my disgust and forced a smile.
Huo Han wrapped his arm around my waist. " manager Xiao is too kind."
"I heard the land of the Lin family is still in your hands?" Xiao Yuanshan asked me.
Feigning innocence, I replied, "Yes, that piece of land was left by my grandfather. I’ve never been able to part with it."
"How about…" he narrowed his eyes, "we negotiate a price?"
Just then, a scream suddenly echoed through the venue.
Yao Yuxin collapsed on the ground, clutching her stomach in agony.
"Yuxin!" sister Hong panicked.
I glanced at Huo Han; he gave me a knowing look.
The show was just beginning.
