"Right, how could I forget such an important matter?" He slapped his thigh as he finally recalled what he had overlooked: the Human Exploration Team mentioned by Old Qilin. With such a significant upheaval in the swamp, it was bound to attract human investigation. Encountering humans in this forest was not a good thing, and given his current strength, if he were discovered, he wouldn't be able to explain why he was there. Most importantly, Xiao Hei was still with him.
After studying the map again, he decided to head south. Going north would lead him toward Yun Cang Mountain, taking him further away from his destination. Although this route could help him avoid human exploration teams, it would mean spending more time in the forest. The longer he stayed there, the more dangerous his situation would become. It turned out that Old Lu had actually arranged for him to go south as well, since his destination, the Lianyun Empire, lay to the south. Initially, he had planned to head east first to avoid the gathering areas of Demon Beasts and Chimeras near Yan Luo River before proceeding south. However, circumstances had changed; now he only knew he was in Cloud Mist Swamp, which was located north of where he and Old Lu had made their home. Therefore, he decided to head south out of Cloud Mist Swamp before making further plans.
After calmly contemplating for an hour, Mo Wen resolved to set off. During that time, he realized the seriousness of the situation. In the near future, he would encounter human exploration teams from outside and escaping Chimeras and Demon Beasts on his journey. He needed to leave this place quickly with Xiao Hei, who was still asleep. Once he determined his direction, Mo Wen fashioned a backpack from Beast Skin and carried Xiao Hei on his back. After making all necessary preparations, he stepped into the mist with Xiao Hei.
The Yan Luo River traversed Cloud Mist Forest and slowed down in the forest's center, forming several lakes—these lakes were part of Cloud Mist Swamp and its core area. The swamp was perpetually shrouded in mist; at that moment, Mo Wen's visibility extended no more than thirty yards, and his perception range had been compressed to about fifty yards. Fortunately, there were currently no Demon Beasts or Chimeras around him. Driven by instinct to avoid danger and seek benefits, the surrounding Demon Beasts and Chimeras had fled due to the collapse of Qilin Cave and the subsequent lava flow. In fact, Mo Wen was unaware that those Chimeras and Demon Beasts had begun fleeing a month ago; now that the anomalies were gradually subsiding, they were returning to their territories.
"Hehe!..." He found himself blocked in a narrow passage between two swamps after walking for four or five days. Along the way, he had encountered a few returning Demon Beasts and Chimeras but managed to evade them all. However, this creature before him left no room for escape; it would be his first battle against a Chimera. Indeed, this creature was a Chimera—its form resembled that of a strong man but with an extra arm on its chest. Its head looked like a lantern with green light emanating from its eyes, ears, nose, and mouth; its face was grotesquely distorted with a nose that seemed sliced off leaving only two holes. One corner of its mouth stretched unnaturally towards its cheek while another reached its chin—it was hideous beyond belief—but it emitted sounds like a woman's giggle.
Mo Wen searched through his memories but found nothing similar; however, he could be certain that this was a Non-Grade Chimera.
"You’re really ugly—so ugly that just looking at you makes me want to vomit," Mo Wen couldn't help but retort.
"Hehe!..."
Channeling his Kung Fu and mobilizing the Yin Yang Principle within him, arcs of electricity crackled around Mo Wen as he charged toward the Three-Armed Chihui. He sensed something was off; that giggling sound irritated him and made his head spin—the Chimera's attack was indeed peculiar. Mo Wen refrained from using talismans; first of all, he needed to conserve them for future battles since he didn't know what other challenges awaited him. If every encounter with a Chimera required talismans, they might not last long enough for him to escape the forest. On another note, he wanted to test his understanding of the Law of Power; during his time in Qilin Cave, he had gained significant insights into the Law.
