Nezha listened quietly, a wave of emotions surging within him. Ao Bing's performance was more passionate and heartfelt than ever before, as if he were using music to express feelings that could not be put into words. Each note was filled with reluctance and nostalgia, and every melody spoke of the sorrow of parting.
As the last note faded, Ao Bing's fingers lingered on the piano keys, and the entire Piano Room fell into silence.
"That was beautiful," Nezha said softly. "I've never heard such a moving performance."
Ao Bing did not respond, his head bowed as if he were trying to calm his own emotions.
"Ao Bing," Nezha stepped closer to the piano, his voice trembling slightly, "do you really have to go?"
Ao Bing looked up, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "Nezha, we've already discussed this."
"I know, but I still can't accept it," Nezha insisted stubbornly. "I don't understand why you must return to the Dragon Palace. You're doing so well here; you can study literature, play the piano, do everything you love. Why give that up to go back to a place that confines you?"
Ao Bing sighed. "Because of responsibility, Nezha. As the Dragon Prince, I have an obligation to protect my people. This isn't a matter of choice; it's my inherent mission."
"But you also have the right to pursue your own happiness!" Nezha exclaimed passionately. "You can't always live for others; you should think about yourself too!"
Ao Bing's expression turned serious. "Nezha, you don't understand. Some responsibilities, once accepted, cannot be easily relinquished. The Dragon Tribe is facing an unprecedented crisis, and if I choose to run away, countless people will suffer as a result. That's why I must go back."
"Is there really no other way?" Nezha pressed on. "Isn't it possible to fulfill your responsibilities without giving up your dreams?"
Ao Bing was silent for a moment before shaking his head. "The affairs of the Dragon Tribe are heavy and complex; they require my full commitment. I can't split myself between my studies here and my duties there. This is a choice I have to make."
Nezha felt a wave of frustration and disappointment. Ao Bing's determination was so resolute that it seemed there was no possibility of wavering.
"What about me?" Nezha asked softly, a hint of pleading in his voice. "Is there no place for me in your heart?"
Ao Bing's gaze softened. "Nezha, you are very important to me, and that will never change. But I must make the decision that is best for the Dragon Tribe, even if it means we have to part ways."
This response left Nezha feeling both touched and heartbroken. Ao Bing did not deny their feelings for each other, yet he remained steadfast in his decision. This rationality and resolve were what made Ao Bing admirable, but they were also what left Nezha feeling most defeated.
"Then," Nezha struggled to control his emotions, "after this week, will we be able to see each other again?"
Ao Bing hesitated for a moment before answering honestly, "It's hard to say. The passage between the Dragon Palace and the human realm is not always open, and with the busy affairs of the Dragon Tribe, I may not be able to get away for a long time."
This answer felt like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing the last flicker of hope in Nezha's heart. This was not merely a temporary separation; it was a permanent farewell. Ao Bing would return to the Dragon Palace to become the Dragon King, while he would remain in the human realm to continue his life. Their paths would diverge from this point on, making it difficult for them to cross again.
"I understand," Nezha's voice was low and bitter. "You have made your choice, and I... can only accept it."
Ao Bing looked at Nezha, a flicker of regret and reluctance in his eyes. "Nezha, I hope you can understand my situation. This is not the outcome I wanted, but it is the reality I must face."
Nezha did not respond; he simply turned and walked toward the door. He needed some time alone to sort through his thoughts.
"Nezha?" Ao Bing called out in confusion.
"I'm going out for a walk," Nezha said without looking back. "I need to clear my head."
After speaking, he quickly left the Piano Room, leaving Ao Bing alone at the piano, his eyes filled with a mix of complex emotions.
